MikeJ: Thanks for the heads up – the May edition is out here in the UK tomorrow so looking forward to that more than usual!
Willip: Thank you, I’m sure you have some great memories, I would have loved to share a burger and shoot the breeze with the man himself…. Do you have any pics from those times by any chance? I understand that Lec always found having the use of their own aircraft very useful in their overseas endeavours. Didn’t they also have a Gemini in the early days too? (Back when they were still Longford Engineering). As to the personalised reg marks, this is also mirrored by the F1 car designed by Mike Pilbeam for the ’77 season & run by Lec Refrigeration Racing (basically David’s own team) – the Lec CRP 1, again using Charlie’s initials. Of course, this was the car in which he had his almighty shunt.
Self edit: No – it was an Anson / Avro 19!
It’s such a shame that the site is going to become a Sainsburys (apparently!) – the photos I’ve seen show such a nice little field… The loss of the business must’ve been a pretty big blow to Bognor too.
Regards,
Frank
