I am looking for any updates on the derelict Caribou in South Africa . Former Air America N544Y was last reported derelict at Johannesburg (Benoni Brakpan) along with C9-ATE . Anyone got any information on C9-ATV which was previously with U.S Forces in Germany in the 1960’s doing COMINT and ELINT and was last reported with Interocean.

Mpatcha- Sorry no she isn’t the machine I am specifically looking for which is C9-ATV . However I had been searching for a picture of the washing line Caribou so it’s good to see her in all her glory!

Thanks for that! These are some of the most interesting Caribou around ! There is/was a Caribou painted up as a billboard in South Africa which I need to find out about .
So it is the one you asked about

That sounds like the machine near Nelspruit . She saw a lot of service in Vietnam and was named ‘Rebel Rouser’ I think at one stage. She is now painted white with an artist’s impression on a washing line down the side.

If it is the one at Komatipoort then it is 2396 (c/n 55) N9011R
Komatipoort is in South Africa and N9011R which might have had a shady history in Africa was cancelled in 1993 as sold in Mozambique.

C9-ATE is indeed rotting away in Benoni. C9-ATD and C9-ATV were with Interocean Airways during the late 1990’s but I have no idea where they are now.
