Would it be possoble to find the owner?

Talking to my stepdad today back in Blighty & he mentioned he has some Ft Lt’s foot locker type box in his garage that dates from WWII. It’s black, about 2x3ft square & about 12-18in deep. He says it has the guys name & serial # on it which he’s going to email me with details & a poss pic sometime this week..

Hi ZRX61,

If an RAF officer he will appear in the RAF Air Force List and the On Line London Gazette.

A check of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site will tell you if he was a casualty of war.

PoW lists will say if he was captured.

If he survived the war the RAF Retired Lists will say when he left the service.

The Confidential RAF Air Force List will give his postings.

Post his name and service number when you have it, I may be able to short cut your research task.

Regards
Ross

The Public Records Office would probably be a good place to start if the person was British forces but I cannot help for other nationalities.
