Gents:
Just saw on the news that the Windsor replica Hurricane was literally torn apart as a result of high winds. This is one of the two replicas that replaced the Lancaster which is being restored. (static) Any news or photos?
The fuselage appears to have been torn away from the wing section and deposited on the ground resulting in massive damage.

looks like the attachment welds failed, so now the plane is in the repair shop and they will surely have to re-engineer that whole mount before they re-attach the plane. The Spitfire is to be removed by crane before it too suffers the same fate, and its mount will need to be re-engineered as well.

Hurricane wrecked by Hurricane??

A product designed to withstand, let us say, a proof load generated by a 120mph wind from 360 degrees at an elevation of 15 feet is going to be a whole bunch more stronger and expensive than a faithful external replica as used on a film set or supplied to a museum for internal or protected display.

There was a replica Spitfire through near Ayr that was also blown away (wings I think with Dumfries and Galloway Museum) a couple of years ago. Clearly they are not as strong as the real thing.

Engineering?

This is really sad
The team worked very hard to reassemble and paint then mount the hurricane. Hopefully she can be repaired. Makes one wonder what would have happened to the Lancaster if she was still there…?
