“Black Sheep squadron” on DVD, the first ten episodes (more correctly I should say it is “Baa Baa Black Sheep” as it is on the DVD cover)….I think we all know the story with this show, the stories were crap and totally made up but with just a HINT of a real plot line in them, and the only real character in the show was Boyington himself (althought General ‘Nuts’ Moore and Colonel Lard were modelled on real characters from Boyington’s Marine Corps experiences)….the FLYING is the thing that makes this show worthwhile and the collection of vintage aircraft displayed on the screen….Corsairs, J2F Ducks, C-47’s, P-38’s, C-45’s, B-17’s and other such warbirds, and of course the combat footage from the war shown in color (I have also, while screening the Pilot episode, seen some ‘Battle of Britain’ footage in it, including a scene of a jeep driving down a taxi way between some Spitfires, supposedly representing the RAF presence in the Far East)…In the pilot episode there is footage of Robert Conrad (who played Boyington) alledgedly flying a P-40 while trying to escape China, and the P-40 looks to ME to be the former Tiger Destefani N model that was purchased by the Lone Star museum…can anyone confirm or deny this? This covers 10 episodes of the series and hopefully before long the second package will come out and I can complete the collection, as some of the best episodes have yet to be released, featuring a former Denver based P-38 owned by the late John Deahl, who was later killed in it in Salt Lake City….
Anyone else have this collection yet? Comments on it?

I agree. The plots and acting are awful but the take-offs, flying sequences and landings make the purchase very worthwhile.

Hmmm. Just got a good idea for a xmas present. I too hope the second part comes out soon. I do wanna see the episode with the Lightning pair. It is called “hotshot”. Also note that Deahl’s Lightning was used in a Tommy Lee Jones movie as well. About Howard Hughes I believe.

That was the name for the first season, when it was renewed they changed the name for some PC or marketing reason to “Black Sheep Squadron”, maybe because they had to pay royalties for the use of the name to the Publishing company that put out Boyington’s Autobiography (titled “Baa Baa Black Sheep”) around that time.

I remember watching it in the 1970s. On Irish TV it was billed as “Baa Baa Black Sheep”.
