A colleague of mine informs me that a Spitfire was on BBC news last night, flying in formation with the Eurofighter Typhoon.
He said that it was “the Malta Spit”, which I know to be BM597, but thought he could have been wrong, and that it might have been PS853?
Anyone know more?

The ‘Blue Spitfire’ which flew at the Malta Celebrations was BM597 MkVb belonging to the Historic Aircraft Collection and kept at Duxford.
It was painted in U.S.Navy Blue to represent U2 (one of 18 Spitfires on board) which was flown off USS Wasp, for delivery to Malta.
Thanks for the info bgrose, I don’t think many of us were aware of the facts.

Yep – loved the break, too. The Typhoon looks good – the Spit looks better! :p

If your looking to use up some hours why not take it upto Daz’s place and buzz him for a bit I’m sure he’d appreciate it! 😀
I’m sure I could be found on earth.google.com – and it’s my birthday next month… 😉 :diablo:

The Spit flying with the Typhoon was PS915 which we have flying on a bit longer this winter due to the lack of hours it flew this season, hence the reason it was at Duxford last weekend.

Thanks. I did wonder as he said afterwards it was a blue Spit, which I knew could have been one of several!
