Merlin parts & Roush Engineering…

Is anyone in the UK using the stuff that Jack Roush is now making for Merlins?. (pistons, rings, cam followers, valves, rocker arms etc etc)

this isn’t some back street race car builder that thinks he can make Merlin parts all of a sudden.

The Roush organisation certainly is not that.

Sorry Firebird, I was just trying to understand what you were meaning by ‘doing it right’ Did you mean that this is a better way of doing things or that these solutions are correctly engineered or whatever?

I was merely taking the references to the racecar business and clarifying that this is but a small part of the Roush Engineering business, and this isn’t some back street race car builder that thinks he can make Merlin parts all of a sudden.

Yeah, saw that article. The parts are FAA approved so should be legal on US reg’d planes in the UK?
On a related note, a mate of mine has the *other* Roush Mustang… an ’05 Ford V8 🙂

There are no Merlin powered US registered warbirds flying in the UK now.

Mine too – and Jack signed it too, could be the same one?

As a matter of interest is anybody aware of these parts being used in Merlins in America, other than Mr Roush’s own aircraft that is?

I believe others have used them in the US.

I know a couple of Mustang owners in the UK with the passion and engineering back up to do it right.

So………. 😉

Probably a few others as well……..

All I was doing was saying Roush has the capacity and facilities to do the job right and are in a sound commercial postion to do what they are doing.

Anybody would thing I’d just committed heresy….

As a P-51 owner he has the passion, but importantly, the financial and engineering backup to do it right. 🙂

Do it right, or just differently???

Its not about his ability to manufacture the parts, its all about whether they have been through the CAA Certification process.

Have they?

(PS not starting an anti CAA thread just asking the question)

Considering his group’s racing successes. it should be good stuff. Hardly a “back room’ operation! If I had a Merlin in a Mustang or Spitfire in need of some work (I wish!!!), I’d buy his parts.

Roush is not just about racing either, it’s a large multinational group of engineering companies employing over 2000 people worldwide, definately not a back street engineering shop.
