To be fair I always follow the A12 when going to North Weald

How close to North Weald is Finchingfield?
Not that far, about 20 miles to the south west, but nowhere near a transit route to Colchester or DX either, they tend to follow the A12 and M11 respectively, remember the accidental ejection from the North Weald JP over Stanway Sainsburies, I presume he was following the A12 then.

Thanks Mike,
They do put on a good display have not seen them yet this year. I take it the regulars will be there? (as in forumites)

Snapper,
Ill buy you a beer next time I see you.
Y11F,
I couldnt see them properly obscured by cloud mostly. My recognition skills are off on that. Total idiot I am.
Mike,
Well spotted.
I heard from a Tutor at college that they may have been Yaks (of the modern variety) but they did look nice up there in the sky together. Very tight formation.

I thought I heard the rumble of warbirds North East of Finchingfield sometime yesterday late afternoon as I was sorting out firewood, but they were too far away to see. This is the usual transit route for a/c to and from Duxford to points southeast.

I heard that it was the Beaufighter, Fiat CR42 and TF-51D limbering up for a possible appearence at Legends 2006……
………..But then , It was almost certainly a group of Yaks from the Formation School at North Weald.

Zero points for Napier Sabre in the warbird identification game….
Is it not formation week at North Weald this week???
Other than that is could have been the Warbirds of Great Britain fleet off to Holland on holiday.

Total guess, but at airshows earlier in the year, a P47, P51 and Spitfire have been displaying together…

Comment of the night must be….. ‘Whose that guy, he’s using a picture of my aeroplane’…..

Rlangham, the ex-OFMC Corsair and P40 are now both owned by the Old Stick and Rudder Company in Masterton, in New Zealand.

I didn’t think of it. Someone tipped me the wink.
By: Snapper - 5th October 2005 at 20:19
I know who you are and I claim my five pounds.
By: Napier Sabre - 5th October 2005 at 17:52
Rlangham,
Ill think you’ll find that those aircraft left for pastures new a longtime ago.
Y11F,
they mayhave been Yaks but one looked like a Wildcat may be wrong though.
By: Rlangham - 5th October 2005 at 17:37
Oops, didn’t know they were down in New Zealand! ::oops::
By: Yak 11 Fan - 5th October 2005 at 17:29
Could they have been Yak50/52’s from North Weald? They do a formation school there from time to time, but I’ve no idea when that happens.

You mean the Corsair and P40 are back from New Zealand???? When did that happen???
By: Rlangham - 5th October 2005 at 17:09
At a guess, the OFMC Corsair, Mustang and Spit/P40
