As Air-Britain have announced that the latest edition of their Douglas DC-3 book will be available shortly perhaps this is a good time to show a few “Dakota” pics. To start the ball rolling here are half a dozen.

That’s interesting, I just looked through my slides and found I’ve also got a shot of KN452 taken at Khormaksar, although mine was taken in May 1967 by a dear departed work colleague.
Also found a nice shot of ZA947 at Waddington in September 1985 when she still wore her ‘rasberry ripple’ colour scheme.
Have attached both for interest…
I’ll have a chat with dad about this. He was stationed at Khormaksar from 1965 to 1967 but the only shots he can be sure of when they were taken were at an open day in 1967 but he doesn’t think this shot was on that day. An awful lot we’ve just labelled as circa 1966 until we know better. I’m at the tip of the iceberg of his shots at the moment, he bought a Voigtlander Vito C camera whilst stationed in Germany in 1962 and I can only imagine film was cheap back then as there’s an awful lot to get through…..
Thanks for posting your shot, when he see’s it it may jolt his memory.

Here’s some from Korea
Couldn’t help the wide angle on the first shot as it was the only way I could shoot her side! π

Sorry to jump in on this thread rather late but I came across this photo of Dakota KN452 taken around 1966 at RAF Khormaksar, Aden by my father. I noticed while search for some history of this plane that there are already pictures of this particular plane on this thread.

KN452 was retired in November 1967 and returned to the UK via RAF Lyneham and then to Kemble for overhaul by 5 MU. The roof titles were painted out and it was displayed at Abingdon in June 1968 during the RAF’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. Afterwards it was sold to the Kenya Police, but not sure if it still survives.

….And following up on the ‘Ripleys’ post. This DC-3 was the signpost for Kermit Weeks’ Fantasy of Flight museum at Polk City in Florida, but I understand it’s currently been moved for renovation….

Not quite to the quality of some of the gorgeous pictures just posted, but for a bit of a ‘blast from the past’ I just dug out these three.
The first two were taken on a visit to Air Anglia’s maintenance base at Norwich in March 1974 and the final one was (I think) at Greenham Common the same year…..

First time I saw this I thought it was a mock-up of some sort, but I think it’s real. Anyone know where it is?
Its at “Ripleys” in Thailand.

Here’s a few shots of fully operational DC-3 with Buffalo Airways, operating out of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Taken in the summer of 2003.
These workhorses are still busy carry supplies to northern communities as well as mine sites and exploration sites across the Canadian north. They’re not quite ready for the museum yet!!! But Buffalo Airways are very aware of the uniqueness of their all radial fleet, which also includes a couple of C-46s and some DC-4s.

Before, I resize some of my stuff, I would first answer that the BAF painted C-47, N49AG-C-53D-DO-c/n11737 OT-CWG based in Belgium in 1996 is now residing at paris-Orly devoid of belgian markings. She was at La FertΓ© Allais on May 15th together with F-AZTE.
There was also a static DC-3 or C-47 with undercarriage doors in US colour scheme, identification unknown.
