Elmdon Boy, that is good news about Coventry Airport and I agreed the guys in the Museum do a great job and are indeed very friendly, I wish them well. I was sorry to see the DC-6 Diner now closed and G-SIXC not looking in good shape, I have a soft stop for it having flown in her from Dublin to Coventry in 1992.

Argonaut, firstly I don’t think the museum would be affected from any downturn of the airfield, as the land I believe is not owned by the airfield ,and I don’t think they rely on visitors from air traffic. Secondly I think in recent times the airfield is safer, they are currently trying to recruit new ground crew.
The chaps there do a wonderful job, and are very enthusiastic and friendly.

We visited last autumn on a cold and damp Sunday but really enjoyed the museum. A real mix of types but especially getting to see the Argosy, BP P111 and Voodoo.

The BGA 804 at Keevil was previously at Dishforth! As the owner of it I am also interested to know how to gliders claim to have the same identity!

I would certainly be interested in an invite to inspect the MAM example.

When Bob Ogden and I picked up the Kirby Cadet from Perranporth all those years ago it was doped Royal Blue with white trim and marked BGA804. I think that the fuselage was broken just ahead of the tail section.

I remember a rather odd looking single seat sailplane stored at Perranporth at the time, natural doped fabric and the wing can only be described as “diamond shaped”, very stange … no idea what it was or what became of it.

BGA804

Its maybe VM589 -it seems to have a doppelganger at Keevil.

When this was originally collected from Perranporth many years ago it was identified as BGA804 – certainly all the literature at the time, early W&R, Control Column, various MAS publications all say the same. And the Museum believes that this is BGA804

Sometime later another BGA804 emerged at Keevil, which has somewhat clouded the identity.

Its certainly one I would like to clear up once and for all !

T.8 Tutor at Keevil apparently started life as a T.7 Cadet Mk1 VM589 prior to having new wings fitted to become a T.8.

Left is Cadet VM589, the right is forumite Richy Doel’s Harrier GR.5 which is on loan. It is a SIM built using some original parts.

Do you have any more photo’s of it ?

No probs John.

I’ll be there over the weekend, however I am ‘on call’ with work, so may be in and out.Don’t worry though, they’ll be plenty of volunteers around and I dare say some ‘open’ aircraft.

Look forward to seeing you (hopefully 😀 )

Cheers

Kev 🙂

Thanks Kev, I will find out if we will be there on Sat/Sun and let you know.

Would be nice to have a tour…….museums that go that extra bit are always worth repeat visits hence my keeness to get to MAM (South Ferriby on the doorstep of the Humber Bridge).

Will keep one eye on the weather and one eye on my timetable and let you know tomorrow when I will be there.

Once again many thanks,

John.

Weekends are normally the best for a visit, as there is usually more volunteers about. However there is a strong presence in the week also now, with several working parties.

As far as events and specific ‘open cockpit’ days, my memory is appalling so I will find out and post later. 😀

If you read this in time, and your in the area (where’s South Ferriby?), I’ll be there all day until around 1530, and would be happy to do you a little tour.

Hope that helps.

Kev 🙂
