The Great War website just pointed me to this amazing obituary of the late Bert van Sloten, published in today’s Guardian newspaper.
Apparently he was the only pilot to win both an Iron Cross and a DFC !

KLM had both DC-3s and DC-2s in service in 1940. Fokker was the European agent for Douglas’ commercial aircraft.
Now if he’d escaped in a Dakota or C-47, that would have been clever!

Could have been a DC.2.
Best wishes

Brilliant, how on earth did he down a Do 17 with a Dak though? Probably the only case of a Dakota bringing down an enemy aircraft, as far as i’m aware anyway. Sounds like an amazing chap, the world has lost another great man
