Anyone of you experts out there any idea what this is? Or is it something cobbled together for a film?

IA24 Calquin – Mosquito inspired rather than actually based on.

There was also a Hornet-ish type, the IA30 Ñancú

I don’t know what it is or what it’s pretending to be but it scared the hell out of me.

I have a real feeling that this was actually displayed back in 1996 as an F-84. That looks as if it is in the scrap/storage area now but I think it was located somewhere else near the C-46s back then. It’s probably no worse an F-84 copy than the Mosquito or the AH-64 copy that was in the underground hangar last time I was there.

I believe it is based on the Nanchang CJ-6 but when I took the shot time was running out and I could not look too closely to see if it had an engine fitted. I think the markings may be faded chinese rather than american as other faded markings looked similar.

Looks a good match to me. I think the marking are faded US style rather than Chinese though. The bars have a distinct dark edge around a lighter colour with a horizontal central line as per the US while the Chinese marks were usually solid red with a thin yellow outline and the central star was not on a roundel…

sorry I forgot to say where it was taken. Yes it was Datangshan Air Museum or Chinese Aeronautical Museum Xiaotanshanzen as it is now named.

It’s at Datang Shen isn’t it? I thought it was a mockup of a F-84 when I first saw it there and is certainly based on a CJ-6 or similar..

looks like a CJ-6a nanchang fuselage and wings

It looks like a Beech T34 Mentor with a plated over rear cockpit and a grafted on nose to me.
EDIT – not a Mentor basis, I think on reflection…

Hmm interesting, any idea of where/when? My first guess is a movie prop, haven’t seen a US jet liek that before
