O.k 😉 ,
She crashed soon after the the LDRU national tour of oz, their last official stop being Perth, on the 12th december 1938.
She was one of the two remaining LDRU Wellesley’s, of the flight of three that made it downunder,
L2638 being out of the tour, it’s engine failing on take off, and being badly damaged in the forced landing, on the 28th November 1938(then crated and sent back to U.K. by sea).
The two remaining aircraft left Perth on the 15th December 1938, with the intention of both flying back to the U.K., stopping first at Port Hedland, then on to Darwin,
BUT the next day an oil line broke on L2639, and it had to make a forced landing at remote Munja station, aparently only slightly damaged.
Crew unhurt but had to walk back to Derby, where they arrived on Xmas eve 1938.
A dude, Called Harry Faulker purchased the aircraft, then sold it to another group, who dismantled her, and brought her back to civilisation.
Then she was sold on to the RAAF, but the RAAF had no desire to operate a single example of an unusual aircraft.
So, this was where she ended up, just down the road from me, at the Melbourne show ground’s, being used by the No 1 Engineering School until 1944.
 😮 SO WHERE IS SHE NOW!!!! 😮
I, and many other would like to know where she went!!! 😉
And yes please Lady’s and Gent’s 🙂 ,
If anyone has ANY picture’s of the 1938 LRDU Oz tour, please post them here, as they did visit a lot of place’s,
And the flypast over Sydney, to Mascot on the 17th november 1938, when met by 15 RAAF aircraft and 11 Civil aircraft must have been great to see!
3 flew in to Oz, but none flew back out :diablo: , L2680 dismantled at RAAF base Pearce, crated then shipped to RAF Port SAID on the “Jervis Bay” in Feb 1939.
**** happen’s
