Hi
I was reading an old copy of warbirds worldwide last night and i came accross an article about Jim Pearce, it mentioned a Me 110 and Fw 189 both recovered from Russia. I know he still has the 189 and that it is under restoration but in the artictle it mentions that the 110 was already under rebuild with the 189 to follow.
Is this 110 the one that went to NZ and if so what happend to the rebuild, where is it now?
plus wasn’t one pulled out of a lake by Jim too, where is that one?
Also does anyone know how the 189 is coming along, that really will be something worth seeing.
Thanks

Thanks Dave – always reassuring to know I’m not going bonkers, was sure I remembered something!

Texastomcat…yes there was, it was not a Pearce recovery and was sold privately in Italy where little has happened as far as restoration goes.
Cees, the second 110 (E) is actually the most historic. Fuselage is straight, but lacks support as a lot of the ‘longerons’ were taken and used on the F. Wings are heavily damaged. There was a plan to make an exchange with another museum, but haven’t heard anything further regarding that.

You have a point!
Any clue what the Bf-110’s non-combat loss record looks like in comparison to the Bf-109?

Would seem to be a great way to get two functional DB601’s in the air with far less chance of short term damage from botched landings and the like.
Ah!
A bit like the Blenheim 😉

Was one of them advertised in Classic Wings in the last few years for sale (2001+?)

I wonder what the plans are for the restoration leftovers, could be another 110. Any news on that?
Dave?

Both the Pearce 110s went from NZ to Berlin. The F model has been restored and is on display in the new aviation hall ( search for DTM Berlin ). The second E model was used as parts and is in store.
There is a site for the 189 Project on the Aeroplane Monthly site.
