I do like that penguine reminds me of FODding on the Blackrock Desert, Remember SSC in 97, you walk miles and miles and seem to be going nowhere. which is exactly where the idear of flying EE Lightnings in the UK is going.
If I owned one there is one company I wouldnt let near the blooming thing, The Company wot designed and built it dont exist any more. another good reason to leave them on the ground.

empty tank
Is there no chance at all? Isn’t it something to do with the fuel tank being where it is in case it had to belly land?
By the time it gets high enough to fall and hurt itself that tank is nearly empty!!! which, without the luxury of in flight refuling, is another good reason not to go too far from home in a Lightning so whats the point.

Anything the RAF has would catch one, as the Frightning would run out of fuel so fast without AAR….. 😉 😀
Nice one!!!! 😀 😀 😀

None whatsoever.
Not specifically fuel tank, as a belly landing in a Lightning wasn’t really considered a viable option 😉 ….although IIRC it was sort of done succesfully once in a superb feat of airmanship.
Basically, the Lightning is classified in the ‘complex’ catagory, and as such IIRC would need BAe to provide DA, which isn’t ever going to happen.

I suppose that wouldn’t help but I believe it’s the poor safety record in RAF service.
AFAIK, the South African ones are only allowed to fly out to sea. I’m sure I’ve read that fairly recently.
I guess the CAA wouldn’t be very happy about Mach 2 fighters in civilian hands anyway so what is IMHO a valid reason is quite useful.

Forgive me for my ignorance but, why are no lightnings flying in the uk. Is it an issue with it not being allowed or a lack of finance?
CAA will not allow it.
