Correct! It was taken in the static park at Biggin Hill’s BoB Air Day 19th September 1964 and here is all the rest of the gen you’re all dying to know!
It was built of plywood and wood and powered by no more than a 500cc motorcycle engine to enable it to taxi. When it was hovering, it was suspended on wires (‘Fly-by-wire’ 😀 ) from a crane. You can just about see the wires in this pic.

Once the serial is revealed, it’s all downhill as everyone rushes to the reference books! Now just one more question, where and when was this taken?

Sovereign – XS341

Getting very close! Sovereign was an airliner made by the same company, but serial is correct for this one. What was the manufacturer and the name of this aircraft.

About 1962-3, I cant wait to see the full image, I have a b/w photo of this in my collection taken by Brian Stainer. Would the location be Northolt.

That’s what i thought, two were built and as far as i know it wasn’t a VTOL aircraft. Does look identical to it though, and i’m completely stumped as to what else it may be!

You’ve answered your own question here? It’s not the SR-53 because BOTH of them were white(there were two of them) and it has nothing to do with ‘fly-by-wire’ technology. Here’s another section of it:
