Tabloid headlines scream! Onlookers in city below’s jaws drop in awe!
Good job it’s the RAF flying them really… It does make me smile, after all in civvy terms a mile is a “near miss”, isn’t it? Mind you, I’d get mighty nervous if Ryanair started doing formation landings…
(VC10s seem to be Historic nowadays, and these were going into Brize Norton on Friday night – snapped out of my bedroom window. There are several reasons it’s such a lousy pic, not the least being that I had about ten seconds to get my camera out and pointing in the right direction through a very dirty window!)

The best bit he said was when they peeled out of the formation in a fighter like break…. 😀
Aaaarrrgh! You are making me drool! 😀

Now that I’d like to have seen!
A friend on mine was onboard one of those Concordes for that 4 ship. IIRC, it was a Christmas or Boxing day special flown by BA (10 anniversary of first Concorde in service springs to mind).
BA staff were drawn out of the hat and he was one of the lucky ones.

Unforunately it today’s post 9/11 climate the activities of all airliner type aircraft will come in for much more public scrutiny.
There was a major panic a while back in Sydney when an USAF KC135 flew low over the harbour on a photographic mission.
Joe Public can’t tell the difference between military and civil so the worst was assumed.
Red faces all round an an appology from all concerned.
On a similiar thread a night-time F-111 dump and burn over Canberra created a similiar panic and resultant public outcry / RAAFapology.
As much as we love our aircraft they are often seen as a potential threat to the unaware public.

I wonder what the tabloids would have made of this one…? 😀
Now that I’d like to have seen! And likewise the VC10 making up the lead of a vic that slipstream mentions. Doncha just love the differences in definitions?

That’s nothing, same speed, same direction 😉 ! In the 80’s under command of Jim Upritchard it was proposed to do a nine ship formation flypast, this wasn’t given approval for a number of reasons but they did a two ship flypast with a third taking off and formating into the lead position of a vic as they went past.

A couple more up close and personal with VC10’s on air to air refuelling…….
