Just a few shots from Cosford on Friday.
Building work seems to be coming on apace, a lot more progress since my last visit a couple of months ago.
The B-24 continues being dismantled. Hats off to the engineers working on these projects. I can take a plug apart and put it back together and still end up with spare parts so God knows how they do it.

Was talking about the hangars with the prototype aircraft e.t.c in. Whats going to be hung vertically? From the diagram i was sent a Gloster Javelin shaped object seemed to be vertical, sure hope it’s not that! Hopefully lighting won’t be too bad in there, at least the Valiant will probably be a lot more easily viewable than put in the corner of the bomber command hall.

Photographys always been rather difficult, but i imagine it will get a lot better when the building work is completed.
Tell me how, please….
I’m going to need one hell of a lens to photograph the B-24 for a start! Aircraft hanging from the ceiling and at least one mounted vertically on a wall?
Question is, will it remain a Museum or are the airframes just set dressing for the Architect to show off his new building?
I believe the concept is to demonstrate a world divided by the Cold War. The twisted lump of metal being built will be more reminiscent of a Hangar damaged had the Cold War gone hot. I’m not intelligent enough to argue the merits of the building on anything other than an aesthetic viewpoint. So far, my worst fears have been well founded. It looks odd, out of place, impractical and an eyesore.
I have a feeling I’ll spend more time at MAM in future rather than Cosford. I asked four of the staff whether they thought the new building was appropriate. Three sets of raised eyebrows and a chap who walked away laughing.
Auster Fan.
No particular squeezing, it has always been that jumbled.

I went along to Cosford during August, while I was at RAF Sealand with the Air cadets. I do love the rarities there – normally too far for me to travel there in a day from Norfolk – but I was struck by how close the exhibits were to each other, making photography difficult (especialy the Auster Antarctic 🙁 ). Is this the normal layout, or have they been squeezed in while the building work is ongoing?

That new construction must, I guess, symbolise something.
My thoughts (or did I read it somewhere?) are that the line of vertical columns running one end to the other represents the “iron curtain” or the Berlin wall.
A few miles down the road at MAM is a genuine Berlin wall “watcher” the U.S.Army DHC-2 Beaver.

That new construction must, I guess, symbolise something. From above it is reminiscent of a propeller, or a bent wing, or a discarded bit of candy wrapping paper. To me it is a most ill-concieved and inappropriate stucture totally out of keeping with the atmosphere of an RAF airfield. I’ve no doubt it will house all the airframes they plan to put in it, but they’ll look like plastic kits in a garden shed – no “ambience” at all.

Are they “taking advantage” of the cutting I believe went on during it’s move to Cosford (from Colerne?)?
