Hi
New to the forum. Hope this is the sort of thing which is of interest. Recently visited Sweden on business and made it to a small but very interesting aircraft museum at Soderhamn in central eastern Sweden (about 3 hrs north of Stockholm), on the E4 road. The two shots below are of the J 21 and J29 Tunnan. A range of other indiginous Swedish designs are on display. All in immaculate condition and almost all very accessible with ‘at your own risk’ ladders allowing you to peer into the cockpit. One of the Viggens on display (a cockpit section) can even be clambered into. All this made a real change for me to the sectionned off approach common in the UK.
The museum also has some interesting displays of life on the base (previously home of the F15 squadron designation in Sweden). Well worth a visit if you are passing through.
The final shot is a puzzle. I found it hanging from the ceiling of a supermarket just off the E4 road very near to Stockholm Arlanda airport. Can anyone help me with what it is (and maybe even why it might be hanging there?!) Is it a Percival

Riding the Pembroke
At present all I can tell you is that the Pembroke is 83004 – it’s 0130 and I have to get up for work later this morning!
In 1958, while participating in the International Aviation Cadet Exchange, I was flown the length of Sweden in a Flygvapen Percival Pembroke. 18 of us in two airplanes, allowed for some good air-to-air shots. A wonderful trip.

Great feedback from everyone and glad to have pinned down that Pembroke. Still love to know how it ended up at the supermarket. Shame my local Tesco doesn’t adopt the same approach – would certainly liven up the weekly shop.

According to a recent Flypast news brief, the Museum will restore the Saab J21 – DB 605 engine and all – to ground-running status.
In 1999, I had the priviledge of sitting the J 21 at the Söderhamn Museum, although I don’t think they will let me perform any high-speed taxi runs when the restoration’s finished!
More on the J 21 can be found at
