This past Monday and Tuesday (Aug 15 & 16, 2005) I had the pleasure of assisting Peter Whitfield his father Paul and his brother-in-law Brad dismantle tutor CT-114177 at CFB Trenton/Mountainview Detachment and prepare it for it’s long trip by truck to The Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum.
The aircraft was previously demilitarized and mutilated by DND and is now unfit for flight. The museum plans to pole mount the aircraft outside the museum.
Here are a few of the photos that I took.

Well our Canadian Airforce does like to get the most out of an airframe..they cost $425K new so that works out to about 10k a year plus upkeep…

Your right Brit… she was making lots of noise on her runup at Trenton.
I noticed in the news they are saying the gov’t wants to keep the snowbirds running for 20 years.. not going to happen…

That would a much better sight seeing aircraft departure Mountainview under their power instead in the back of a dump truck…

Brit.
There was a snowbirds tutor at trenton undergoing runups. I think the tutors at mountainview are prepped for flight and flown to atess at trenton where they are repainted and checked etc

True that makes more sense that trying to ready a tutor for a ferry flight to Trenton or Moose Jaw

I’m not sure, but I have seen some tutors on flatbeds over the years around Trenton.
I think that they would truck them all the way out to Moose Jaw for a complete tear down during the off season.

Guys,
Any idea is the Tutors (with the engine installed) 🙂 are flown out of Mountainview, when they are returned to service with the snowbirds..or do you think they trailer them to Trenton to be returned to service..

All the ones you see in the hangar in Mike’s photos are held in flyable storage for the snowbirds. None of the tutors at Mountainview have engines fitted.

From what I understand, some aircraft have been a Snowbird a few times and others never.

Hello Brit.
I believe the second group will be sold via lancaster aviation. You will have to contact DND disposal.
