BATTLE OF BRITAIN AIR SHOW AT DUXFORD SET TO THRILL THE CROWDS
The Imperial War Museum Duxford is set to stage a very special tribute to veteran pilots from the Battle of Britain at its 65th anniversary Battle of Britain Air Show on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September.
The Show will feature over 20 Spitfires as well as nearly all the airworthy Hurricanes in the UK in what promises to be an emotional tribute to the veteran pilots present.
Says Tracey Woods for the Imperial War Museum Duxford “65 years ago, virtually all that stood against the invasion of our country was a select group of RAF pilots. Now, some of those pilots, “The Few” will be at Duxford and this show will see what is likely to be the last major gathering of Battle of Britain pilots at Duxford. It is our honour and pleasure to put on the best show we can, for them and for what we anticipate will be a large crowd. Visitors to the show will have the opportunity to meet some of these men – men who made history – and to show their appreciation for their efforts all those years ago.”
Duxford itself was a key fighter station during the Battle of Britain and on both days of the show will once again reverberate to the sound of many Spitfires.
The Show will also feature some of the successors to the Spitfire and Hurricane and will include some of today’s fastest jets, bristling with the latest technology, in a thrilling flying programme lasting over three hours.
Duxford is just south of Cambridge on the M11. Ample free parking or Park and Ride from Junction 11, M11. Gates open at 8.00 am, main flying display begins at 1.30 pm. Tickets – Adults £23, Senior Citizens £15, Children and Concessions £8. Please note there is a small additional charge for the flightline walk. All flying subject to weather, serviceability and operational commitments.
