I was reading in C.W. a while back :rolleyes: ,
About the Air Zoo’s Ford Tri-motor, having it’s wing’s centre section replaced 😎 .
What’s this about the internal alumimum part’s, becoming work-hardened after 74 year’s from engine vibration :confused: .
Will this be a major problem 😮 , for the world’s Warbird’s and other older aircraft as time goe’s by! :confused:
And is this why some of the old aircraft, that still look perfectly good to fly, no longer do! :confused: .

Yes, I have seen the little pile’s of bluish powder, left behind after a warbird has turned to dust!.
But this hardening by engine vibration’s, doe’s sound nasty!.
Quiet a LOT of plane’s that are still flying today, could be affected one day I guess!.

There is no such thing as conservation.
Any metal structure will, inevitably reduce itself to powder over (a long) time.
The art is to delay this as long as possible.

AT the end of the day aluminium only has so much life before it break’s down and fatigue cracks can appear.
I would think would apply to all aircraft, not just Tri-Motors.
