To all who support the goings on at Bruntingthorpe, just a reminder that this coming weekemd we have an Asda families day and we have been asked if we can put on a little static show of Aircraft, one of our two Lightnings will be on show with one of the Buccaneers, all other resident aircraft will be accessable.
Also we have a cold war jets open day coming up on the 28th August, so if you can make it please come along and enjoy the usual goings on.
Question marks are still being raised over the continued future of these open days due to insurance, fuel costs etc so if you come along please make the best of it all.
See you there

Just checking, there not going to do that stupid cold war jet vs bmw’s again are they? Hopefully the Hunter will have her canopy on this time, last time i went it was canopy-less as some member of public sitting in it pulled the canopy release handle, and you need to take out the ejection seat to put it back on!

Cor, nearly missed that. Got me ticket to the UK to catch this extensive Aussie airshow.
You missed out
14:45: How to build several humungous inside but Belfast style outside hangars that retract into the ground in no way spoiling the lanscape building competition. Cost to be less than 7s 6d, and must have change for meal, kinema ticket and 3 piece suit. Open to all, those with museum or architectural experience need not apply. 😉

Crikey, took one quick look and nearly shouted to my dad that the Red Arrows would be there! Still, according to East Midlands Today (BBC News) a Tornado will take off and give a display!

By: TEXANTOMCAT - 24th August 2005 at 11:25
Doughnut – it usually costs £10 to get in (320psi will probably know more soon) the majority of the money goes to pay for insurance which is enormous, i imagine the rest goes to BAH

Ta Andy,
The bits by the Q shed are being moved by DW i think – not sure whether they have gone yet, if not they will be imminently – the base units are the ones bolted to the concrete and am pretty sure that they are still by the Lightning pan, but again they are to be moved by on site wallahs…
We have dismantled 90% of the hoop – so it can be straightened…once that happens the base can be installed at our pan then the hangar reconstructed…. 🙂
Then the Beech can be covered up, not too keen on her being outside in this weather, covers or no…. 🙁
Cheers

Shots of the T-6 look great, well done.
Re the rub are you saying its all gone from the Q shed entrance ?
Not sure what you mean by the base
Will see you at the weekend

320PSI wrote “The along with selling souvenirs its our only income on the coldwar jets day”
Two questions :-
How much is it to get into Bruntingthorpe?
Where does the money go, if it is not given to the aircraft owners?
By: TEXANTOMCAT - 24th August 2005 at 10:49
Hi Andy
Both the Beech and T-6 will be there – the latter with Turtle Deck newly fitted – she looks a helluva lot better now!
Had V interesting chat with DW at weekend – will enlighten you anon… :diablo:
Only a bit of the rub needs dismantling but its on Nev’s pan so well out of the way…hope to move the base shortly according to DW
All the best
Ben

Hi!
Re XR728, I was just curious as to what was up with her? I notice that she got shut down before the pairs run last time…. Is it the same problem?
Paul
Just a note to all interested parties out there, last Saturday we managed to solve the No2 starter snag on XR728, it truned out to be the HT supply box in the spine which for some reason unknown as yet wasnt putting out enough umph, we swapped it with a servicable unit and tried the start cycle serveral times with no hickups.
All these little electrical snags we get are due to them being kept outside, so lets hope we can raise abit more cash on Sunday to go in the QRA hanger fund.
XR728 is still due to be on static display durning the day to get as many people in the cockpit as possible which will help the fund raising efforts and halve our fuel bill and insurance costs for the day !
As yet I dont have a running order for the open day but will post something when I get it.
Hope to see you there, fingers crossed for the weather

[QUOTE=philip turland]They are really taking the P*** now.
maybe it is me…………….. Yes it is you
it really makes my blood boil…..David has no problem, [QUOTE]
Phillip…. suggest you talk to David yourself…. the “no on foot access to hangar” was David’s first pre-requisit and the mini-buses was the main reason, David allowed Denis to open the hangar to the public, which incidentally, was totally his idea and I believe he had to sell it to his own bosses.
Also I wonder if Denis is now having second thoughts about opening the hangar at all, after your reaction to the access plans, and after this, if it were me, I personally would be reconsidering the offer of help he made to you a couple of weeks ago.
The lighting in the hangar is hellish expensive to run, so I personally think that a fiver is not excessive

It’s a shame about the price, i love Vulcans and can’t wait to see XH558 fly again, although if i have enough after this weekends shopping in Brum i might pay to have a look
By: alanl - 17th August 2005 at 22:15
[QUOTE=philip turland]
anyone who comes along with their a lottery ticket should be able to get to see the vulcan for free.
On the one hand I agree with you Philip but how much money did ,for instance, the Royal Opera House get? £xxx,000 and you still have to pay to go there and see a play or opera or whatever!
It is personal choice at the end of the day isn’t it, how badly do you want to see it in bits?
Well done on the Beech restorations by the way!
Alan.
