Airborne Assault Duxford

The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Museum based at Aldershot is going to move to IWM Duxford. The new museum will be much bigger and modern with more displays and hands-off stuff, and as well as the usual vehicles and weapons e.t.c, the museum also has a Dakota, Hotspur glider cockpit and a Horsa glider fuselage. There also might be a chance the Assault Glider Project might move there complete Horsa there. Included in the new museum will be a hangar to display aircraft in vehicles. Anyone got anymore info on this interesting development?

They would most likely have space in one of the other hangars for the Horsa and/or Dakota after the Cold War exhibition has been built, would make a good sight – two Dakotas in RAF colours with a Horsa glider (and Hadrian in the future). I’m going to the open day in September so i’ll get some pics of the aircraft if anyones interested

The AGT seems to be looking to Cosford as their future home – at least that’s what you can glean from their website – which hasn’t been updated for a while.

They seem to want to move into one of the original hangars formerly used for the contruction of Horsas but this would mean reproviding Hangar space for RAFM.
