I ve just acquired a couple of old negs featuring the Avro Triplane IV and Bristol Boxkite.
The Avro photo looks to be taken at Old Warden, but the sheds in the background suggest it may be somewhere else.
The Boxkite photo was supposedly taken at Booker at the time of the filming, but does anyone recognise the background.
All help much appreiciated.

PS I f anyone else has some early shots of OW, please post them here.

Avro and Boxkite
The Avro is definitely at Elstree. I think the Boxkite is there also as they both flew in together for an airshow – don’t remember the date but I have some photo’s somewhere.
Neil Williams was flying the Boxkite.

Great to have a bit more info about some of the planes from this great movie. I saw it for the first time just 2 weeks ago and I just loved the plane and the german officer who flew with his book of instructions.
Just great! 😀
Cheers,

The Boxkite was built by George Miles at Shoreham – is that Shoreham, North-East corner of the field near the blister hangar that was there?
Has anybody got a copy of “Building Aeroplanes for Those Magnificent Men” by Air Cdr A.H.Wheeler – that might answer the question?

Assuming they were not taken at the same time, the background in the Avro shot reminds me of Elstree, while the Boxkite has a Biggin Hill feel about it. Probably totally wrong but in any event, they were definately not taken at Booker.

A lot of filming was done at Brooklands, so perhaps it’s there?

I would say for certain not Booker, but it does look to me like Fairoaks, or maybe, going a liitle further south, Wisley.

Location
I don’t think the Avro is at Old Warden, I don’t recall those sheds in the 1960s.
I wasn’t sure if you wanted ANY Old Warden early shots or just Mag Men associated ones?
Anyway … here’s a shot from my very first visit, 16 October 1965, Kodak Brownie 127.

I would suggest by the background that they were both talken on set durring filming at Booker
