I am not really up to doing any big stuff at the moment 😮 (maybe soon 😉 ),
So here’s just a little one O.k. 🙂
What was the first real/true Helicopter to cross the English Channel
When was it  .
Bonus, One’s I don’t know  (Yet), but do YOU! 😀 .
Who flew it  .
Where is it now  .
Must crash now 😮 , feel’s a bit like running on 4 out of 8 cylinder today! 🙁 .
Check back tomorrow Lady’s and Gent’s.
” Gut Nacht ” all 😉 .

Well done Ian, have a warm feeling. 😀
Still rotorcraft related, I’d like to know roughly how many Avro 504, were converted in to Autogiro’s.
You would, would you? Go ahead. 😉 As so many were used, re-used, broken, had bit substituted, bits stolen off dumps etc, etc, I don’t think anyone would ever be able to come up with a reliable count. You could, like a good reggie spotter, gather all the regies / IDs, but it’s not quite as simple as that, as anyone working with old aircraft knows.
There’s a replica at Quatros Vientos, that Stieglits posted a couple of pics recently.
Cheers

That Soviet one looks interesting, ever properly used? Would have been great for transporting troops and light vehicles into the battlefield
By: STORMBIRD262 - 29th July 2005 at 19:10
German design’s…..Maybe
Just an after thought  ,
While at Axl’s……….Nermal 😮 , do you think these may look similar in design concept  .
May have been a few other’s as well mate  , different but similar in a lot of way’s too.
Discuss please, BYE crashing now, melting ” Gut Nacht ” all 😉

Go Hanna!
Interesting stuff Guy’s 🙂 .
There’s a great pic of Cierva sitting on the tail of one of his Autogiro’s, in me lastest Hely book 😎 ,
I see it brought the inter-war Autogiro stuff to a halt, with his death in an Airliner accident at Croydon in 1936 🙁 .(some one else can fill in the blank’s if they like  )
Still rotorcraft related, I’d like to know roughly how many Avro 504, were converted in to Autogiro’s  .
Same goe’s for the Fw-44 Stieglitz, just surplus one’s used for the Fw 61, and 261 and Hely stuff  .
Any Yank’s out there know if the two Fa 223 Dragon’s made it back to the State’s  ,
Seem’s a damn shame if they all got destroyed 🙁 , It’s performance was quite good 😮 .
Here’s Hanna Reitch 😀
, Inside the Berlin Deutschland Halle sport’s stadium, In Feb 1938, Doing the demo stuff 14 night’s in a row, and she only had less than 3 hour’s on the type 😮 .
Some Lady pilot was Hanna!! 😀
P.s good question J.D.K., I maybe wrong but I’m sure I have seen the one you are talking about, where, now I have to remember 😮 .
Did it go to Spain, France, or England, I’m guessing England somewhere mate!(Dux,Shut….. hmm  ).
Great a few got preserved, as the where a sort of important aircraft for it’s time, a great in between design, toward’s true Helicopter’s 😉 .
Roll on 🙂

While we are on the subject of egg-beaters, when was the first non stop transatlantic flight by a Helicopter, date, make, owner, and what was it’s destination ?
By: EN830 - 29th July 2005 at 14:02
A C8L MkII Cierva autogyro, flown by Mr Cierva himself from Croydon to Le Bourget , 18 September 1928, UK, Spain and France by chance ?
OK JDK
How about Paris Musee de L’Air, G-EBYY ?
By: Learning_Slowly - 29th July 2005 at 13:32
As ever 😮 but I have worked on one.
By: JDK - 29th July 2005 at 13:25
Go on Ian, whats the Reggo? And where’s the aircraft now?
Sorry LS, you were beat, and Italy is wrong…
By: Learning_Slowly - 29th July 2005 at 13:10
Italy at a guess, although editing after Ian, he is probably right.
He always is 🙂

And another question:
So what was the first rotorcraft to cross the channel, and which THREE nations were involved?
Where is it now?
Heh…

The Fa223 wouldn’t have had a lot of influence on immediate British helicopter designs – we were using early Sikorskys at the time. Wonder if it had any influence on any designs at all.
Shame about LEMB. Used to have quite a bit of interesting information, but its pages have been decimated. – Nermal

Spot on Mr Flood!
Well done again Mr Flood 😀 ,
That’s the Chopper, Fa 223 Drache(Dragon) 😉 .
From what I have read the Pom’s got one of the Dragon’s, and the Yank’s grabbed two of them.
I wonder if any of the Yank one’s survived somewhere   .
BIG gap between the Birth of the Helicopter(1907), to the time when a real true helicopter 😮 , first went in to real production, such as the Dragon being the first, being only about 20.
It was an amazing design for it’s time the Dragon, a very useful Helicopter 😉 .
23,643 Ft record altitude on the 10/26/40, that got my attention 😮 🙂 .
As has been written, the Channel flight just capped off it’s very successful some what short history  .
WW1 made the fixed wing’s develope in leap’s and in no time was a potent force 😉 .
Helicopter’s had to wait another 30 year’s for there time, and MAN have they not made up for lost time! 😀
Great link too Mr Flood, I’ve dropped in there a few time’s over the last year for a peak now and then, great Place!!! :dev2:
Thank’s mate 🙂 ,

A Focke Achgelis Fa-223 Drache was the first helicopter to cross the English Channel, from the continent to Britain, in September 1945. It was apparently flown by an ex-Luftwaffe crew in US markings, and upon arrival at the Airborne Forces Experimental Establishment, Beaulieu, its RAF markings were applied and it became VM479.
After that I don’t know, but can assume that it was scrapped as so much else was when it became surplus to requirements.
(Here is a link to the appropriate LEMB page, with pictures, and seemingly one of the few to totally escape having data lost through hacking… http://p069.ezboard.com/fluftwaffeexperten71774frm90.showMessage?topicID=8.topic)
