Julie has asked me to post details of Steves funeral for all those who wish to come, and to thank you all for your kind thoughts in these times. She read some of the tributes last night.
Steves funeral will be held on Wedneday 3rd August at Cambridge Crematorium in the large chapel at 1:30 pm. If you wish to give flowers that is up to you as individuals, or donations to something Steve felt strongly for.
After the funeral there will be a celebration of Steves life at Little Paxton Village Hall, again all are welcome.
Some of Steves friends contacted me also about a memorial of some sort, specifically a bench at Duxford or Old Warden. Some of us were already thinking on those lines and if anyone wants to contribute then please do. Cheques etc can be sent to me at my home address which I shall post below. For those of you overseas who wish to contribute I have a paypal account too, details to follow. Another tribute which some of us have thought appropriate, and which Steves family are fully behind is to have a Chipmunk overfly the funeral. As Steves first Chippie flight was in the one at Duxford we are also looking to arrange that. Again, send cheques etc to my address and I will sort it out. I will reuse the account I used for the 609 Memorials, please make cheques payable to:
Mark Crame Memorial Fund.
Post cheques to:
Mark Crame
38 Tennyson Road
Lowestoft

Paypal (in £ Sterling) to :

Finanlly, any good pictures you have of Steve please email to the above address and I shall print them at work and Give to Steves family on Wednesday. Compress to about 1mb or so If possible please.
Thanks everyone,
Mark

We’ll have to have a get-together at the Duxford September airshow, & the Red Lion afterwards, as a wake for Steve.
I have the photo of Steve in the Lightning cockpit as my current wallpaper (hope that’s okay Jen?) & now I find myself saying ‘Morning Steve’ when I turn on and ‘See you tomorrow’ when I turn it off at night.
Geoff.

Like others,I’ve had trouble finding anyone to cover for me at work and it’s now certain I won’t be able to come. I’ll be sending a donation shortly.

Due to staffing problems at work i am unable to attend, I feel quiet bad and dissapointed about this.
I will make a donation at some point soon.

I am hoping to be there, but I am still waiting for work to tell me if I can have the time off.

I’ve got a feeling that if, during Steve’s goodbye, new friendships were made, he’d be well pleased.
Rick
That had already crossed my mind and I’m absolutely certain you’re right.

Like others, I won’t be able to be there to say goodbye to Steve; August is a lean month on the work-roster because so many are on holiday.
I’ll be thinking of you all on the day. I’ve got a feeling that if, during Steve’s goodbye, new friendships were made, he’d be well pleased. Say hi to someone, give them your callsign, and make the most of it.

I will be thinking of Steve and Julie and their family’s, On that day here in Oz, I don’t drink really, but a beer may go down for Steve 😉 .
Thank’s in advance 🙂 ,
Great Job Snapper(Mark) and the rest of the World’s Lady’s and Gent’s 😉 , You all do the Human race proud, which is quiet refreshing considering some of the thing’s that have happened this Month 🙁 .

Thanks Trumper, much appreciated.

I drove that route just now, just to confirm,Stay on the Eastbound A14 but when it splits away from the M11 you will need to get into the right hand lane,it will be sign posted for Cambridge[IT BECOMES THE A1307] rather than the A14,THEN look for a sharp right hand junction ,maybe sign posted Cambridge Crematorium or even Dry Drayton. That will then swing you into a u turn onto a junction allowing you to turn back onto the WEST bound A14,but then stay in the INSIDE lane and look for signs.
Just have eyes in the back of your head as people tend to use that right hand lane going into Cambridge as an overtaking lane for the A14 eastbound.
If you miss the turning don’t panic go into Cambridge [Huntingdon Road ] and then just try and turn back to go out of Cambridge in the opposite direction and head on the Westbound A14 .

Both sets of tips were useful.
When I go past there I’m usually accelerating to warp speed for the M11 so, apart from noticing the cemetery was there, I don’t know the area at all.
I found a basic map on the net showing the cemetery and the shape of the roads at the junction(s) but with no details of lanes, direction, anything. Very useful. 🙁

Trumper — well pointed out. It’s been so long since I drove down that bit of the junction (used to live out Earith way and worked at the top end of Huntingdon Road) that I’d forgotten about that cut-through.
dhfan — ignore what I said, and listen to Trumper instead 🙂

Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Martin. It looked a bit tricky from the map. I’ll have to make sure habit doesn’t take over and I go straight on down the M11.

After some deliberation, I have decided not to come, as I did not know Steve and dont want to intrude on those who did.
I will however send Snapper a donation.

I’ll be there, like many others I will make a donation on the day.
By: JDK - 28th July 2005 at 11:13
I shant be able to be there either, though I’d like to of course.
Steve Patterson will therefore have to try and represent a bear-size Australian (Setter) and a tall Tweed clad Australian (me). Thanks Steve. Folks, it’ll be worth turning up for Steve’s Aussie accent…
Donation on its way by post Snapper. I really don’t mind how it’s spent. The radiotherapy unit is a very worthy cause. I’ll not forget Steve; his face is another I’ll think I see in the airshow crowd, but when I get back to Duxford or Old Warden, a short repose on Steve’s bench would be a nice thing.
For instance, and as an aside, those who appreciate the Blenheim might like to search out a certain bench at Duxford outside Building 66 (Blenheim Palace) to the north-west of the Chapel. There’s a few worthy names on brass there.
