Had a chance to pop into the Air Museum at Newark Lincs. last week. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Amazing considering it’s privately funded. Nicest of all is that you can get close enough to touch most of the exhibits. They’ve got a brand new hall opened now with some unusual exhibits like an ex. Danish AF SAAB Draken a Supermarine Swift and for me a real gem a Gloster Javalin… Recommended.

James – opening aircraft cockpits relies on volunteers who have all received training to ensure that visitors are safe when looking inside the aircraft that are open. Sadly this means that they’re not open every day but we do hold regular open cockpit events and this also happens during events like this weekend’s Aeroboot or June’s Cockpit-Fest.
Wiseman – one of the benefits of the Empedia platform is that it is licensed to link to external providers like You Tube, which is where the SHAR footage of ZA176 is hosted. I’m sure that you’d be made very welcome when you visit as the museum has strong connections to Canada. 🙂

There’s some trials footage of VZ608 on this link to the museum’s new Emepdia listing http://empedia.info/maps/28 that might be of interest!
Nice photos James despitethe wet weather! 🙂
Thank you TwinOtter23. Nice Meteor footage.
I also enjoyed the most unusual Harrier ZA176 landing on a Spanish freighter story.
James, the Newark Museum is a great discovery. I will definitely have to include it in my next visit to the UK.
Thanks.

Thanks for the replys from TwinOtter23 and Peter.
Not great weather had been 1991 since my last visit ,i did wonder if access was available to the vulcan and shackleton but was informed due to lack of staff on that day and also health and safety rules this wasn’t possible , cost me 50p back then.
Didn’t realise the shackleton was being re-painted i just thought it was the vulcan.
And i did like the daimler benz engine , would make a nice coffee table in my flat and a talking point!
Anyway a nice two or three hours and my mate was impressed by the size of the vulcan……….i had warned him.

Very nice pix. Thanks James. More shots of the Meteor?
At least you can look at the grass turning green. Snif… I can smell the spring around the corner… not – we just had 20 cm of snow yesterday 🙁
