Well, I have been threatening to post pix from my Grandad for ages….although I have a new scanner I am useless/dunno how to get it to reduce pixels so I can post phots.
If anyone wishes to guess details that would be entertaining and I will post correct details later 🙂 (I have 1000s of his phots)

Rocketeer – thanks for posting the pics. Maybe you should have saved them for the winter when they would have been less drowned by airshow pictures.

…or perhaps they will have a diluting effect. 🙂
I noted the viewing counter hit 85 yesterday lunchtime.

3. I have given up asking for a photo advice sub-forum!!! The requests by myself and others are consistently refused,
Opinion was polled.
There was no significant majority for any change
Are you suggesting your opinions should outweigh the remainder for some reason?

Rocketeer, if I may be so bold, please make that ragwing Hurri the very first image you rescan… I can’t wait to see a better scan of this very VERY early Hurricane! (Note the kidney exhausts, Watts prop, and no lower tail strake)
Looks like you’ve got a veritable goldmine on your hands. 🙂 Thanks for sharing these!

Wilco Lynn….this was taken by my Grandad at Northolt in 1936, you are correct in it being early! I have a piccy somewhere of a brace lined up for T/Off with the Squadron CO’s pennant on the nose!

Yes, keep ’em coming, they look interesting so far!
If you are a Mac rather than a PC user others can help.
What computer and operating system are you on? No, I don’t want you bank details yet. 😀

In addition to the above:
See if you’ve got Microsoft Photo Editor somewhere on your system (usually lurks in the Microsoft Office Tools folder in the Start menu). If you have Office 97, 2000 or XP it should be included, and if not installed is easily added from the CD.
Open the saved file from the scanner in the program, find ‘Image’ and ‘Resize’ in the menus, set the units to ‘pixels’, and adjust to 700 or 800 pixels wide. After doing this, in the ‘Save as…’ dialog press the button ‘More >>’ and set the slider to 40% quality or thereabouts. Then SAVE THE IMAGE UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME! This way you can always go back to the original (large) image if you need any details. The new image should now be ready for uploading on the forum.

Tony.
Scan the photographs to file, doesn’t matter how big they are and save in my pictures. Then use photoshop or I think there is a microsoft programme already on your pc with which you can reduce them to 800×600 pixels. That should bring them under the forum limit.
If you need any more explanation I am sure there are plenty of folk on here who can tell you far better than I can how to do it.
Keep posting those images. They are a refreshing change.

Sorry Papa Lima, I should have been more prescriptive (it was late at night!!!). Basically, I used my digicamera not the scanner as I do not know how to reduce the resolution….yet!!! I will not post more phots until I can do it properly…..sorry…..when I looked at the posted shots I realised they were worse than useless…sorry again!
Don’t put yourself down, they’re good. It makes a change from endless “Flying Fagend” pictures. Keep em coming.

1. To me it looks as if you are scanning from a photo album and that you are not closing the scanner lid – if you can take the photos out of the book and place them directly on the scanner glass you will avoid the bright splashes!
If you cannot either take them out of the book or at least take the pages out temporarily, try covering the rest of the glass with a thick black cloth.
2. Once the pictures are scanned in (I suggest at 200 or even 300 dpi), use Photoshop or a similar program to reduce the pixel size, as described many times already on this Forum (use Search and try “pixel” to find those threads).
3. I have given up asking for a photo advice sub-forum!!! The requests by myself and others are consistently refused, and you are the latest of many to ask the same old questions – no offence, but at least it would be a more useful addition to the Forum than much of the other stuff that appears.
