From the North Weald Airfield Museum website-
‘North Weald 60
North Weald Airfield Museum’s Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII will be on Sunday 24th July. The main events will be on the Airfield but the Museum will also be open. The event will be in partnership with The Squadron, BBC’s WW2 Peoples War Project, Epping Forest District Council (EFDC), Essex Museums and the Hurricane, Spitfire and Blenheim Societies.
The day will draw together aviation groups, vehicles and aircraft of the period with the Squadron Club as a focal point. There is a Spitfire and Mustang based at North Weald and Museum Trustee, Clive Denney, will fly in a Hurricane. The day’s theme will be North Weald ’45 – The Sound of Merlins.
The Museum will be open from 10.00 am. Admission will be free, but donations to maintain the Museum will be welcomed. There will be a mini-bus running between the Museum and the Squadron Club on the airfield.
The museum is indebted to the BBC for providing funding for the event.’
This sounds very interesting, I shall have to start checking train/tube/bus times 🙂
Does anyone on this forum have any more information on the event?

Thanks for info Colin, but I’ve already seen that. It was about the only info I could find on the Internet on the event.
YakRider, many thanks for the offer. A PM is on its way.

Hi Geoff,
Hope this helps, I will leave it up today for info but will drop it tomorrow as it takes all my bandwidth for the month on here !! same day as our Classic Vehicle Day, so all flying in can give us a buzz that day !!!

There is no show as such. Clive Denney will probably do a short display as he has done on similar occasions in the past. They will probably pull a few things out of the hangar too. I expect Peter Teichman will be flying one or other of his machines! We are never too sure what will be around, there’s usually something interesting going on. If the Aerostars are flying we may get the Fiat G46 in from WW.
The Squadron’s phone no. is 01992 524510. Speak to Alan.
If you need a lift, let me know. It’s not that far through the Tunnel for me.

YakRider,
Do you have any inmformation as to what is happening on the airfield for this event? Is there to be a flying/static display, will there be any veterans attending, will any aircraft operators etc. have any sales stands etc.?
There is nothing on the North Weald museum website, other than what is in my first post, and I can’t find any information elsewhere. As The Squadron seem to be involved I did try to locate a website or contact email address for them without success.

The council are also now looking at alternative sites for the housing within the local area, which they hadn’t done before, so they now have a ‘Plan B’ as well – at long last!
They are preparring for a Public Enquiry then. As part of their evidence they will have to show why there are no suitable alternative sites.
Its a double edged sword I’m afraid.

There is a consultation meeting to be held later this year, September I believe, The North Weald Users Group has been invited to put our case. Depending on the otcome, there may then be a public enquiry.
With London now hosting the Olympics, there is also an argument in favour of using NW as LCY (although closer) doesn’t have the capacity for large numbers of bizjets. NW’s main runway is certainly long enough at 1920 metres.

We are keeping our fingers crossed. Looking forward to this weekend’s event.

So what is the latest on the development issue that has threatened North Weald lately? Did send the form letter mentioned here on the forum some time back. Would love to go back to that place. Apart from the Norwegian RAF squadrons during the war (331 & 332) I was based there a weekend of June both in 1986 and 87…. 😉
