The last wave of RAF Lancaster Bombers?

That’s what they said on Yahoo! News, that the Last Wave of RAF Lancaster Bombers dropped over a million poppies over London to honor WWII vets, some of the poppies landing on members of the Royal family before they went back inside Buckingham palace….more correctly, it also stated that a number of WWII planes flew over in tribute….sure would like to know where these ‘waves’ of Lancs came from!! Anyone got pics of the event?

Given the level of yer average education these days it’s a wonder he didn’t called em Heinkels..

Not true…it would take some knowledge to even know of Heinkels, whereas everyone THINKS they know a Lancaster (or B-17 in the US) when they see one. 😀

A previous ‘wave’ consisted of 2 x B17 and 2 x B25. Close enough to being Lancasters for your average journo.

Flanker….yes I am aware of this…hence the irony of the press reporting that there was a ‘wave’ of Lancs…I thnk Moggy’s comments that the other bombers were Lancs too as far as the press is concerned is pretty accurate…

As there are only two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the world – and only one in the UK – you could hardly have a ‘wave’ of them.

A single Avro Lancaster – accompanied by a Spitfire and Hurricane – all belonging to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – flew over London and the palace – the Lancaster dropped a million poppies from its bomb-bay.
