Today Skysport Engineering opened its hangar doors for a rare look inside the aladdins cave, plus to add the icing to the cake they also wheeled out the Hawker Demon to allow some photographs to be taken in the ‘light’!
All of the people there were really friendly and willing to help take covers off aircraft, move ladders, etc, but special thanks must be given to Tim Moore for allowing us all to invade his back garden and also to Box Brownie for telling me about the event in the first place and also for keeping everybody in check!
Here are some of the pictures in no particular order:
1. Overview of Tims back garden – I would love a garden like this!!
2. Hawker Demon
3. Lindberg’s Miles Mohawk
More photos tomorrow

Fergy/Box Brownie
I was (as I said above) really sorry I missed this event.
Apart from the Mohawk and the Demon what else was there on show in the way of Skysport projects?
Got any pictures of them?
I’ve always imagined that place to be an Aladdins cave of old airframes and projects.
Cheers
Andy

Hi,
Isn’t there another Demon in Australia undergoing a rebuild. I saw a photo of the fuselage the other day, can’t remember where though.

Have to agree though, that Demon is beautifull, must get on with that Gamecock!!
Hey Matt. Let’s get the BE finished before you get sidetracked by glorious Glosters!!
PS. Thought of selling my soul to the devil, but discovered that a hangar at Sywell was quite hot enough. Even if the line-checking helicopter tried to offer some impromptu ventilation as it taxied past the door!

Nice set of pictures, Fergy 🙂 Thanks!

Never doubted it for a minute – at the risk of setting Spt off again, had intended waiting for the 20D replacement – however I had a chance the won,t come again.

The Kestrel is being rebuilt as we speak. When the engine is ready and the CAA are happy she will fly!

I was in a dilemma on Saturday, as I planned to go to this event, the on to Legends afterwards, but the weather on Saturday morning made me abandon both and wait for the glorious weather on Sunday for Legends. Shame I missed the Demon. If anyone has a spare colour slide of it, would they be kind enough to PM me for a trade or purchase?
Did anyone hear anything about when it will fly, as I believe it has a fully restored Kestrel engine, or perhaps ‘being’ restored? I can’t wait to see a formation of Hind, Nimrod & Demon at Old Warden!

For sale: My house, someone else’s house, my wife, my dog, everything I own, the shirt off my back, anything else I can think of to sell…….darn I still can’t afford to make a big enough offer for that gorgeous Demon.
Sigh….
The BE2 is very upset that you even consider replacing her with another!!!!!

Perhaps you don’t get out enough?
Sorry boss. I get out as much as possible but I don’t manage to get to more than one airshow most years. If I get to more than two I’m extremely lucky so I have to be selective about which show I’m going to attend. Since RIAT got so big and expensive I don’t go there anymore but also I prefer the historic machines.

Just in time to make G-ASML sell his soul to the devil to try to raise more money 😀 …
Here are some more pictures of the Demon taken on Saturday in the murk, but they came out reasonably!

I had problems finding the hole to take the film canister in my new digital camera!
It all went down hill when I took the pin outa the pinhole camera…
Great pics BB, lovely to see.
I hope to get some pics of the RAAF Museum’s Demon cockpit sometime. It’d make an interesting comparison.
Cheers!

You are definitely sick. There is no antidote to Flying Legends.
Perhaps you don’t get out enough?

Seriously, the shots of the Demon were the first digital images I have taken, the cockpit shots were scanned from slide. It could be the way the are played with in photoshop.
Keep smilin’ and visit Skysport next year.

Very nice!
Your photos have a very typical slightly desaturated soft-focus kind of look. Is that intentional? It’s quite nice 🙂

Here are two cockpit shot which might just show the attention to detail that has gone into this project
