After an excellent show, one of Classic Wings’ de Havilland Dragon Rapides suffered what appears to have been an engine fire. Emergency services were on the scene quickly, but as the pictures show the fire gutted the lower right wing of the aircraft.
No-one was hurt in the incident, and hopefully the old girl will restored to full health.

The Rapide is known to have this type of thing happen from time to time.
Having the exhaust there doesnt help…….especially if there is a little unburnt fuel around after start-up.

Looks like it could have been much worse. Engine start fires have been the end of many a Rapide. Glad all onboard were ok.

Yea that was a little scare there. Those fire engine drivers were darn quick though! And good for that too, as the damage could’ve been much worse without them.
I hope Classic Wings will get it all sorted again soon.

Ouch! We were down the other end, looking at the Grace Spitfire. Thank you for the pictures and yes, much better on the ground!

Wow, someone buy the firecrew a pint on me.
Considering how volatile the surrounding structure is I am happily suprised at relatively small amount of damage – glad no injuries.
