To all classic jet enthusiasts, the Lightning Preservation Group based at Bruntingthorpe airfield Nr Leicester (home of Vulcan XH558) are holding an open day on 10th July 2005.
Both F6 Lightings will be fast taxied down Bruntingthorpes 2 mile runway durning the day with a pairs run in the afternoon, all the other resident aircraft will be accessible for inspection, and the prime time Jet cars will also be doing their stuff.
We also may have the resident Hunter, Camberra and Buccaneer giving demos
The day is being held to raise more funds to finish the rebuilding of the Ex Wattisham QRA hanger which when finished will be a historic building in its own right and will give the two Lightnings a much needed roof over their and our heads after 17 years of being out side.
The day is also being held in memory of Brian Carol who passed away in Dec 2004, he was one of our stalwart pilots who has thrilled the crowds at previous open days with his fast taxing demos.
XS904 will be unveiled with his name under the cockpit durning the day by his family.
Look our web site up for more info.

Working like buggery to get the T-6 tow-able to park her next to the Beech for ya – first time shes ever been on public show-
My good Spagetti eating chum Italian Harvard will also be turning up (whether he knows it or not 😀 ) on Sunday so how about a forum meet – say by the Beech at 11.30?
Who up 4 it?
Steve, DB,Chris you coming?
Fly ins are normally allowed but only if you pre-book with the airfield and again only at certain times…
ehehehe I’ll surely be there (like it or not innit? 😉 ) !!!!
No jokes, I’ve never seen/heard a Lightning on, it’s gonna be a real pleasure!! Seeing G-TOMC on her legs again is gonna be great too 🙂
The fact that I’m with a VIP of the day gives it a different taste 😀
Alex
P.S.
It’s spaghetti, not spagetti!! Despite my efforts your italian is still terrible!! 😀

Cheers, will we be able to see the QRA shed as it is at the moment? Also, was Brian Caroll one of the three ex-lightnings pilots present at the Bea Beaumont open day? While they were all busy signing paintings the kind gentlemen signed a small print i had of a lightning (I was about 12 so couldn’t afford a big print), still got it somewhere it means quite a lot to me.
Yes everybody who come’s will be more than welcome to view the progress we have made in the last six months, which is staggering when you think its all been done a a shoe string with only a few of us doing the graft, here’s some shots I took last Saturday

This week the roof beams are going in on the west side bay
Yes Brian was one of the days performers, giving his usual flare to the event, I remember him geting out after run and walking straight over to the crowd for a chat.
Heres some shots taken on the Bee Beaumont day, the group shot shows: L to R Brian Caroll,Jimmy Dell (performed the most flight in TRS2),AVM ret.PeterCollins,John Spencer and Dennis Brooks
Maybe it was Brian who sined your print, mind you any of them would have done the same for you.

Great, Bruntys just down the road from me so might go down with my dad. Will it be at the end of Bruntingthorpe that the normal open days i held? I went to the LPG day when it was at the other end of the airfield, i think it was in recognition of the test pilot Bea Beaumont (Not sure of his name, i hope thats it)
Hi glad to hear you are coming, please spread the word we need a big push this time.
To answer your question no its not at the top end this year, its at the main end which is accessable from the main gate just outside Bruntingthopre village, go to our web site for a map if need be.
Yes that previous open day was in memory of Bea Beaumont, as he had passed away the previous year, its sad that this open day is commemorating another great Lightning personality and a really nice gentleman, who was always willing to chat to anyone especially about Lightnings, I am proud to have known him.
His account of his trip in one of the two seaters in S Africa in 2004 is well worth a read he thanked us afterwards for keeping him ‘current’ , you will find it on our web site.
Cheers
