Airshow rained off – in Australia!

There’s an advert campaign for some kind of cats’ **** that says “I really hate it when that happens.”

A true story from New South Wales, on drought alert, and Temora Shire into it’s FOURTH year of servere drought. You’d think putting on an airshow would get sun? Wrong. (Who brought the rain god?)

From the Temora Aviation Museum’s website and bulletin (my edited version):

The Saturday (June 11th) of the Museums Flying Weekend was washed out with the arrival of some much-needed rain. This steady rainfall throughout the day ensured that the Museums aircraft and visiting aircraft were not able to take to the skies. However, visitors were able to look around the Museum, view the displays and theatre, as well as the Museums collection of aircraft. The Caboolture Mustang, Matt Dennings Boomerang and one of the F/A-18 Hornets were also exhibited. Visitors were able to climb up and view inside the Hornet.

Museum staff, crew and volunteers were anticipating better weather for
Sunday and were eager to get the show underway, although this was also
dampened with a low fog that never lifted.

For everyone that missed out on seeing our aircraft fly during the June
weekend, we would like to remind visitors that our next flying weekend
is not far away. At this stage it is exactly four weeks away and will
fall on July 16th and 17th 2005.

The Museum organised a photo shoot on the Friday before the flying
weekend that involved a formation shoot of the Museum Spitfire with the
three visiting aircraft. To check out the four aircraft together in the
sky, click on the link below.

At least they got a great shot in with something for everyone on the Friday. Credit: Picture by Rob Fox from the Temora Museum’s website.

Oh well – I should be happy I was there when it was sunny then.

Temora – November 2004 (and my camera’s sensor isn’t as dirty as it looks)

AFAIK ‘Winston’ was well, but I suspect the choice was ‘just’ to put up a unique never before seen formation – so let’s not be gready now! 😀 The ‘real’ missing a/c would be a Mirage IIIO of which none are flying in Aus. But I recon, one day…

If you liked that photo, go check the website for more.

SRP is in his homeland, nice and secure, I believe, but imminent Pom warnings have been broadcast…

Great photo.

If only………they could have had the F.8 Meatbox (Winston as was) in that shot, slotted in between the P51 and the Hornet, especially as it’s based at Temora. Was it u/s for the photo sortie…?

Would have been similar to that famous RAF Battle of Britain 20th anniversary commeration formation shot of the Hurricane, Spitfire, Meteor, Hunter, Javelin and Lightning.

James,
was Patterson there??
It hailed when he was at Leg-ends, blew a gale and was freezing when he was at Midland and snowed when he was at Reno.
There’s a pattern there somewhere.

I should add that the flying display at Temora is (normally) top stuff.
