One June 14, 1919, Alcock and Brown became the first aviators to fly non-stop across the Atlantic.
Eighty-six years later, a replica Vickers Vimy is being prepared in St. John’s, Newfoundland to re-create this famous flight.
The aircraft will be flown to Clifden, Ireland by aviation adventurers Steve Fossett and Mark Rebholtz. This is the same Vimy replica that retraced flights from London to Australia, and London to South Africa.

There is an excellent video on the Rolls Royce History site featuring the flight by Ross and Keith Smith from the UK to Australia in their Vickers Vimy.

It looks like the flight has been postponed for a few days to allow for better weather conditions. See http://www.clifdenchamber.com/vimywatch.htm for more details.
I hope the weather conditions improve to allow the flight to take place and hopefully a few more people become interested in this historic occasion!!

Oh, and why has no one in the British media picked this story up?
Dan, you’re in that line of work, can’t you give some of your news colleagues a jab in the ribs on this one??
Cheers

Hope they pack their wetsuits and flippers!
Good luck to them – brave chaps! 🙂
Try to be positive please, Dan.
I’d love to be there to see them touch down in Ireland.
I intend to watch the video link for as long as I can keep awake.
Remember they’ll be no dozing off for them.
I wish them Good luck and Gods-speed.
Cheers
