Duxford Beaufighter

Anyone know anything about this aircraft, such as when it is set to fly again, and how far its restoration is at the moment? Hopefully i’ll be able to see the cockpit fitted when i visit this weekend, but just seeing a beaufighter is good enough for me. Also, theres quite a few Duxford guys out there, so i was wondering that if someone was around the beaufighter behind the metal gates, and i asked to have a look round ,would they let me? Wouldn’t want to get on their nerves by asking them and just getting a quick ‘no’ :p

Rich men spending as little of their capital as possible to get the best possible result.

We worked out that one of the guys I’ve worked for here in the US could stop *working* & spend $2M a year on his planes (instead of the current $1M) & he wouldn’t go broke for at least 500 years… 😮

Follow the money.

If the Papua/New Guinea folk, with their boundless supply of US spares for P-40, P-38 & P-47 aircraft, could get their act together, I would not be surprised to see the focus of restoration drift from Oz/NZ toward their ‘dollar an hour’ economy. 😉 🙂

Hi Bruce

I am 100% in agreement with this – and heres to the rich guys keeping the industry afloat!!!

It certainly is about the issues you speak of and also capacity to some extent – Here here!

Kindest regards

Look guys,

I have seen brilliant restorations from all over the world, which have been certificated with no problems in their chosen country.

Likewise, I have seen less than brilliant ones from all over the world, that have had trouble being certificated (no names, no pack drill)

It is also true that what one organisation finds acceptable, another wont. I myself have produced work that I thought was good, but the customer didnt like. British restorations arent always the best; no country can claim a 100% track record.

So lets stop arguing about who is best – I go back to my point that its all about money; Rich men spending as little of their capital as possible to get the best possible result.

Manonthefence

I know this willl lead to tears and I shouldn’t have risen to the bait but where exactly did I say we can do it better – I said

“I think you will find if you read through the posts that in fact i was trying to be supportive here of the UK and the industry – I appologise if you took a different view of my coments – It is just that the Beau is my favourite and i take a view if because as you say all of this other work is being done on all these other aircraft and the Beau can be done here sooner and cheaply but with the same quality then why not. You need to read the bits where I spoke of the quality and people of the UK industry too. I never said or intended any slight on TFC or anybody else there.”

Again THE UK PRODUCES THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF RESTORATION IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE – OK

Hi Avro – you are a bit of a stirrer yourself – I will be at Leg ends – I hope to catch up with you and some of the others like David and Fuji for a drink – could have a great time at the Red Lion – would be nice – You could always mount me on a pole at the gate at Dux as an example to all of we colonials !!! LOL

John

Oh so ” If you dont hurry up with the Beau we should take it back to Australia and in any case we can do a better job than you so there” is a good basis for a debate is it?

Hi all

I think it’s been good and healthy to debate the issues here – I don’t think anybody should be upset with this.
