lancaster parts ID wanted

Hei to all,

Today I visit a friend who is a hobby diver and he showed me some parts that he found at the bottem of the IJsselmeer some time ago. He wonder if anyone knows more about them. As far as he knows the came from a lancaster. Also he wonders what is needed it identify the aircraft involved.

best regards,

Mathieu

Hei,

The diver told me that he had untill now found 3 engines, he also said that it feels, like the are laying up side down ( the visibility is allmost zero)
I hope to find out more later this week.

best regards,

Mathieu

Mathieu,

Where does the diver come from? And is this wreck located in the norhteastern part of the IJsselmeer? If so then it is a Lanc ( a known one) and the fourth engine is on display at our museum. If he has found the centre fuselage and wings in one piece then there is no doubt about it. Apart from that there are still three missing crewmembers, I hope he knows what he is doing.

Any more news?

Peter,

Wel that leaves the following types to be found in large quantities in the IJselmeer then:

Lancaster I/III
Halifax II/V
Wellington II
Spitfire (various)
Hurricane I/II
Whitley V
Mosquito (various)
etc.

A bit more info would be great

Cheers

I concur, Cees.

We should not automatically assume that the parts are from a Lancaster. They look to be fairly standard items to me, and could be from many different types of aeroplane.

Let’s hope something leading to a positive i.d. will turn up.

Is there any certainty that it is indeed a Lanc? The guys I am involved with at Texel (just to name an example) call any British aircraft wreck a Lanc and any US aircraft a B-17. Sounds oh so simple.

Any further news?

Here is a photo of a naked Merlin on the Lancaster at Nanton – perhaps someone is able to indicate with arrows on the photo just where your items are located.
Regarding ID, that’s not my field, but I would guess that any numbers you can find on parts would help!

Hei Peter, papa lima,

Thanks for this very fast answer, at this moment I don’t have anymore photographs but I’ll ask for them.
The id of the aircraft is unkown to use but we are very interested to find it, any idea what is necessery to find an ID? Is a dataplate from an engine enough?
Also wonder if someone has photographs from these parts that shows were they were fitted at the engine?

best regards,

Mathieu

parts ID

Hello Sonderman
Easy stuff… 😉
The first one is the remains of the engine driven generator and the second shows 2 engine pneumatic rams similiar to the idle cut off and supercharger rams.
Any more pics?
Do you know the id of the aircraft???

The first one looks like a dynamo or alternator. Are there any letters or numbers anywhere on them?
