Can’t give you the details I’m afraid…it was a news item I saw some time ago, complete with ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics. My ageing brain cells don’t retain such details for long…

Re. ‘Nigger’ and ‘Digger’ – I suspect that a creeping political correctness might have led to some ‘adjustments’. They’re even airbrushing the fags out of people’s mouths in old photos these days.

No – it was (codename already forgotten – and I only saw it yesterday!) for a hit on the dam – and ‘Nigger’ for a breach – applicable to all dams.

So there were lots of (forgotten codename) – and only two ‘Niggers’.

Strange that the film shown on Saturday C4 says ‘Nigger’, yet the clip shown tonight in 100 Best War Films on the same channel definitely says ‘Digger’

The bit you refer to is after the breaching of the second dam – “Dinghy” could have easily been misheard as “Digger”, but I distinctly heard the former.

I was pleasantly surprised that A Bridge Too Far made the Top 10. I thought the comment by Luvvie Dickie made about John Frost comment about a scene that Hopkins did was so typical of Hollywood though… :rolleyes:

I was a little surprised Wild Geese didn’t appear in the list either, compared to some of the strange ones that did, or for that matter, Cockleshell Heroes, Heroes of Telemark, Green Berets, Way to the Stars etc.,etc…..

The interview with Johnny Briggs was funny when he showed that he had 633 Sqn as his mobile ringtone….. 😀

You’re confused – what are you guys talking about? Something on UK TV? How is a “war film” defined? Would “Zulu” qualify for example?

Anyway, for my money – I’d put “Apocalypse Now” well up the list.
