What machine was this? the original pic shows this wreckage with a German soldier standing next to it. Can’t realy identify the machine, a Battle maybe?

Spot on Robbo.

You can see the identical corrugated internal structure to the doors.

I reckon Steve’s right, Ju88. If you can get a pic of the bomb bay door interior that may prove it. Potez is a good guess Ian, but I think they had a circular fuselage, and I’m guessing that’s the round-cornered square fuselage bulkhead of a Junkers.

There’s me about to say It’s a JU-88 showing off it’s trailing aerial and then I find that Daz has already got there.

This one (although not much better than the RAFM one) shows the mast and the “protruding elements”.

Quick Google for a belly shot (or as near as) of a Ju88 brought up the RAF museum aircraft.

We’re looking at the underside of it. Split bomb bay, with each bay having two doors. Aerial extending downwards and outwards just aft of the bomb bay. Flat-ish profile to the underside of the fuselage. Tailplane section tapers equally on leading and trailing edges, and is mounted closer to the top of the fuselage than the bottom.

I’m wondering if it might be Ju88?

I don’t know Mark, all I can say it is a rather small machine, most probably a single engined one. Here is another pic. BW roger

Definitely doesn’t look like a Battle to me.
The opened covers in the foreground: isn’t this a bomb bay with a separate pair of doors each side of the fuselage axis? The angled aerial mast just aft of it, and the series of small protruding elements along what would be the bottom of the fuselage are rather peculiar.

Are we looking at the under surface and a small bomb-bay with doors or a hatch on the top surface of the fuselage?

Curious.

Hi Roger,
Having been looking at Battles a bit recently, over at the Air Warfare Forum, I’d say no. Difficult to tell though. Can’t put my finger on why, but it doesn’t seem like a British a/c construction to me; but I could be quite wrong!
