Did anyone at the weekend at Duxford have a problem with there canon camera showing a error 99 code… I did using a sigma 400mm lens. I did see a report on the UKAR forumn that a guy had the same problem, and he highlighted the problem to the electrical storm in the area on sunday. and possibly also caused by being in near to power lines. I contacted canon who weren’t aware of the problem surprise surprise…. Other people did have the same problem when using canon made lenses as well… Please tell me i am not alone with this problem. I have been out today in my local area and the camera and sigma lens have all worked without a hitch. I will post some pics from the weekend when i get a chance to look through them, i know what you are thinking not more Duxford pics.

I had the same Err99 eer problem with my 170-500 mm sigma, they rechiped it and then it did his job well !! it’s a CHIP problem for sure ! The Err99 code is indeed an general code for an error , I think the Canon people where to lazy to give more detailed codes. If you’re using a D20 and a BG-E2 grip problems get really started !! And Canon of course is “aware” of nothing …. 😡

did you, by any chance, change lenses while the camera was switched on?
this seems a common way of getting an ‘error 99’ code up?
Never do that always switch off first. Like Damien said quite likely to be a problem with the aperture, mine worked ok most of the time f4.5 when it was at the widest end of the zoom and likewise when zoomed out fully it worked fine at f5.6. In between that it wouldn’t work.

I had the same experience with my Sigma 400 mm APO on a 10D. When I contacted Sigma they told me that a “99” reading indicates that the camera does not recognise the lens attached. Rechipping of the 400 mm could not be done by Sigma Holland, since the lens was too old !!!!!!!!!!!! 😡 😡
Hope this helps, 🙁

Sometimes Sigma lenses have to be rechipped by Sigma to make them compatable with the lastest camera’s. A friend I know has a 135-400 Sigma zoom. On his D30 it works, on his 10D it works till 390 mm, after that it gives error 99. Rechipping is either free of charche, and somethimes, with the older models, a small amount has te be paid, around 20 PST or so. BW Roger

Have a look at this forum, look under the EOS section there maybe some help on there.I believe that the lense contacts can cause problems on non canon lenses.

Keep replies short or PM them please guys, this is off-topic for the forum, but possibly of interest to a few so it’ll stay up if it stays sensible.
