Please sit down!

I often watch this forum as many of the posts are interesting, especially after an airshow such as this weekend at Duxford. The pictures taken by various forum members are fantastic and often wonder why I even bother taking a camera when I can see the decent photos on here. I always enjoy Duxford and tend to go to all of the four shows throughout the year.

When ever we go to watch a show at Duxford we tend to go and sit on the slopes outside the land warfare hall (as it appears alot of you do). One thing that constantly bugs me is why, if people are going to stand up on the slope – can’t you stand up at the back??

When someone stands up half way up the slope it means those behind, to the left and to the right also have to stand up!! Therefore creating a sort of ‘Mexican wave’ effect until everyone has to stand if you want to see everything that’s going on.

On Saturday we had three french blokes standing 2 feet in front of us and when I asked them to sit down they looked at me as if I was from outer space! (and no it wasn’t my French either…..)

I am not saying that everybody does this but if you do want to stand up then please show a bit of courtesy to other people, especially those with young children who (even if they are standing up) can’t see past your upright frames.

Am I being unreasonable?

yes, ppl with ladders are really unpolite!! I remember some of them in the latest airshow here in italy..
Another thing I didnt particularly enjoy at Legends were people building small “boxes” near to the fence.. I guess that’s pretty selfish too..

Hi Moggy,

I am a subscriber….I just favour the LWH slope since I love it when the Spitfires take off over your head at leg-ends.

Thanks for replying.

Indeed. I had the problem of a two families who came and tried to take over the space Mrs C and I were sitting in, eventually they went right in front of us, and the bloke wouldn’t sit down, kept playing with his kids, and occasionally taking photos, including about 400 of his children. All whilst we are trying to watch…

He must have:

A) been ignorant…
B) thought as I was sitting down, young, accompanied and not carrying a camera, I must have had no interest at all in the airshow.

He then proceeded to move his child’s (supersize) moviestar buggy until it was virtually on the rug we were sitting on (remembering this is on the bank – it had already rolled down once…). Then he realised his two year old had wandered off about 10 minutes earlier, blamed his wife and left us in peace…

The staff at the FlyPast enclosure are very good at policing the ‘don’t stand up’ rule.

Not as good a spot as the LWH hill, except when the pillocks there all stand up, which makes it not as good as FlyPast.

Come on subscribe, you know it makes sense. (Nice bogs you don’t have to queue for and unlimited free coffee.)
