HP in a heli…DUCK!!

Hi all,

After 30 years of flying fixed wing and displaying my vintage machines, I have now started helicopter lessons (thanks to Nick ‘you have to have one of these’ Parkhouse of Tipsy, Dove and Tiger fame).

I dont think I have every done anything as difficult in my life but wow! What an incredible device!

Plan is to buy an R44 and operate it from my house. I cant think of a better way to commute to Old Warden.

In the meantime, if you are anywhere near Wellesbourne – keep your heads down!

At least you’re learning how to fly it! There are people who want to fly a helicopter but can’t be bothered to have some proper training for it… o my…

As I was 53 a couple of months ago I’m beginning to wonder whether I should be talking to you nasty rude lot.

I think we are a little way off a stair lift, especially when there is such an incentive to climb them!

Stair lift

Come on geezers,

The limp I have is Sciatica and is getting better – I think we are a little way off a stair lift, especially when there is such an incentive to climb them!

Having said that, I did make use of an empty luggage trolly a la Zimmer to get me round Mauritius Airport when we booked in for a heli tour of the island.

Normandy – yes indeed Andy, it has to be done. We are only at the start of the season and we will get across the oggin in the Robin soon (not the Robin-son….?!) to do the Normandy trip. I have done it a few times now – we’ll bring my mate too, he knows a great deal of detail and will be a fantastic guide.

So HP,
when’s this long discussed trip to Normandy going to happen?
With the present commitment rate of the rogues concerned it’ll be about 2009 or 2010!

Oh and I think this sedate image you’re starting to portray might change next air-show season.

Later (Geezer).

I did join the CC to get cheaper insurance for the house on wheels.

Just you make sure you have the sticker in your back window.

Oh and one that says “Old Git” on the bumper of the Merc 😀

Stape

Cheers for the ammo mate. 😉

Caravan club

Its a lie, its a lie…OK..its true. I did join the CC to get cheaper insurance for the house on wheels.

Er…..Saga came up with £470 for my Mercedes when my existing insurer wanted £1100 and a tracker….

Being 52 has its advantages.

(I’ll get you for that Stampe – you have been hereby relegated to the Falcon for Great Vintage Fly In instead of your favourite Magister – I think its worth mentioning that you are too lardy for the Ryan – unless of course you are coming as Billy No Mates or can persuade that thirsty Kinner to run on methane – let me think where a regular supply of that can be found…)

I think the forum should also be informed that HP has recently joined the CARAVAN CLUB whatever next Saga Insurance or maybe a Stannah stair lift!!! 😀

Thanks for that Maarvin. I’ll make sure I show it to Mum next time she’s here. For some strange reason, she doesn’t have email. 🙂

Good luck HP, I understand learning to drive a helicopter reinforces the belief they aren’t meant to fly.

BTW, I believe Nick Parkhouse owns Tiger Moth G-ANOH. My dad was learning to fly in it around 50 years ago. Any chance of a recent pic I can show my mum?

Heli’s

Hi Jason,

Lets call it a distraction – the heli is intended to be a business tool primarily although theres nothing to stop having fun whilst learning. We (including your dad!) get fed up driving around the M25. What better than to lift off from here and get done in a morning in what would otherwise be a long day in traffic. The new R44 (provided I get the green light from your father!) could be here as soon as September. I havent changed my mind on the warbird thing and plan to do the Harvard – T28 – 2 seat Spitfire course this year.

DH Fan – ‘Parky’ is planning to bring his machine up to OW on a regular basis this season so you should see it. Make sure you get to talk to him – diamond geezer.

Hi Janie,

THe last time I flew into Cromer was in the Maggie – a bit short for my other flying machines. Interestingly enough, despite being completely illegal ( and probably quite scary!), I reckon I could already fly the R22 there solo despite having less than 4 hours heli time. Alas, thats the only way I could do it – no chance of my PPL(H) within a week, not least because I am taking the lovely Nicky to Ireland to thoroughly spoil her for her 40th next week.

So, I wont see you there and envy the inevitable ‘best in the word’ Cromer fish and chips. I dont do crabs yet but Nicky loves them.

All the best

Egg beater

What do you want with an egg beater?????????????????????????

Hope it doesn’t delay the purchase of a serious warbird.

Have numerous P-51 & P-47 colour schemes when you are ready.

Very best regards from your old flying partner form over the Tirpitz!!!!

HP: You’ve got a week to learn to fly that thing. There’s a Heli Fly In at Cromer Sunday week. See you there? I’m chopping in too.

Hairycopter… that makes sense. Having watched the video footage I took at OW last week, I note you were practising your hover taxiing skills when ‘holding off’ the Ryan. :p

I can understand the desire for space (thinks HP’s Winnebago 🙂 ) but, well, ooh missus, an R44, not very vintage. Lots of room for pax though 😀

How about a replica Gyrodyne or Rotodyne, okay a little impractical. Wasp, no, too small, ahhh Wessex? In the right colours, very Regal, although step ladder required for cleaning.

Okay, okay I’ll get my coat.

I have to say I was suitably impressed by my first passenger flight in an egg-beater just a few months ago, let alone getting the chance to do hands-on.

How long before the ‘vintage’ helo bug bites?….. 😉 😀 😀
