Bit of a grey day to start with and quiet. Cleared up nicely in the afternoon. Not much warbird activity at all though the T-28 did a few circuits late in the afternoon. Some photos of the outing therefore with Cattermole accompanying me on the banjo.

Duxford is interesting at the moment. Lots of stuff bunched up together and I found myself noticing many more different things than usual.

The Airspeed Oxford was (I believe) the last flier when operated by the Skyfame Collection, but was grounded, due (again, I believe) to airworthiness concerns. Then Skyfame ran out of cash. However, without Peter Thomas’ work, we’d be a lot poorer for aircraft in the UK.

See Albert Ross’ ‘What have you flown’ thread for a pic of it in flight, with Albert aboard. It’s now an IWM machine, so it’ll never fly again, but be conserved and preserved for the future.

If you want a flyer, bother the NZers. There’s a couple which maybe could be rebuilt to fly. Big job though.

The chap leading the conservation is a great bloke and we’ve had several discussions about the work. If you want to know, ask. I’m not going to name him (sparing of blushes…) but he was also responsible (with a team) for the reconstruction of the IWM Magister – a superb job.

u know, that Cessna is one nice piece of vintage plane! I’ve seen one in a natural metal and red finish and it was superb!

The Teddy on the B17 was Ted White’s personal logo. It was kept as a tribute to the great man after his untimely death, like the yellow/black checker board on Sally B’s engine cowl.

Me 109 1190 has a Mercedes Benz badge which is not original, but does the job, It is based on a modern day Merc lorry/van badge.

The other way around, surely? IWM has the original in store, as an anti-theft measure.

The Curtiss arrived a few weeks ago, The lettering on 434 and the kill markings have been there for as long as I can remember…

… and the turret and bits… B24?

Nice photos – some interesting ones there… Looking forward to next weekend now…
