Hi all i took my grandmother to East Kirkby yesterday (29th) which she seemed to enjoy even though some of the pictures of the crews on display brought back memories that i guess she would have prefered not to remember.
While in the watch tower she told me about a Spitfire that crashed somewhere between Burgh le Marsh and Orby. Apparently she thought that the aircraft was struck by lightning and power dived into the ground burying itself so deep that the pilot and aircraft could not be recovered.
I was wondering if anyone has more information on this incident? I do not know which year it happened. It could have been post war as she was not based in the area during the war. She also thought that the engine was recovered at some point which i think would mean that the pilot was recovered as well but she could be confusing it with another Spitfire incident.

I found the info, please see copy of original document from cwgc outlining the accident plus two photos of the pilot from the Canadian wgc and a photo of the Rene Depraz memorial plaque at Croft Church. Enjoy!

Hi, I know its been a while since your post. Did you find more info on this. It happened in fields on the Croft side of Billgate Lane in Burgh Le Marsh The pilot was French canadian. I have some Intel somewhere. The Croft church also has details about it too. I’d be happy to share info once I find it
