Well done all, sorry it took so long to get back

Well done everyone, all correct 🙂 .

Yes it seem’s the Lord wanted a fast executive type aircraft, and I think he got a very good deal, don’t you think!. 😮

“Britain’s First” made most other aircraft look so very old suddenly, like the dinosaurs they really were, The left over’s of WW1 technology  .

The shock it caused britain’s RAF and aero industry’s at the time, was a very good thing indeed, for without that sudden wake up/rocket/boot up the backside, thing’s may have been quiet different in 1939  .

The Skua and the Whitley, good practical(not so good looking) aircraft for their day 😎 .

With the Whitley, in service from before the War, right up till 45, and I think three or four different engine type’s fitted in that time, also seemed quiet liked by their crew’s from what I have read here and there.

The Skua, probably not too bad when first built, and quiet a usefull aircraft for mission’s of different type’s, but I don’t think I would have liked to have come across, say a Me-109, while flying in a Skua or Roc in 1939/40.

Doe’s anyone out there have any good Skua or Roc story’s, not mission’s so much, but from pilot/gunner/obsv , that sort of thing  .

Ok, If anyone would like to add some more about any of the aircraft above, please be my guest 😉 .

Cheer’s all 😀 , Tally :dev2: Ho! :dev2: Ho! Phil :diablo: .

Was the Blackburn Skua the first British aircraft to shoot down a German aircraft?

1, Built for Lord Rothermere and called “Britains first” and presented to the nation. Why? Not a clue.

Been a while since I read “Spirit of Britain First”, but I believe the name was partly patriotic and partly because it was the world’s first all-metal, stressed skin monoplane of that type.

Beat me to it while posting…!!

1, Built for Lord Rothermere and called “Britains first” and presented to the nation. Why? Not a clue.

2, Blackburn Skua or Roc, early dive bomber?

3, Dropped leaflets over Germany.

BP. 🙂

The Blenheim was built for Lord Rothermere, proprietor of the Daily Mail as far as I can remember. Wasn’t the prototype named “Britain First”?

Wasn’t the Whitley the first aircraft to raid Germany?
