I’m glad to have brought it to your notice.

I was delighted to recognise a couple of the groundcrew who were interviewed. I didn’t know that either of them had been involved in the atom bomb programme.

I think there’s a Blue Streak at the Leicester Space Museum as well if anyone is keen to see one. Great TV programme.

Did you see footage of the Austers on Christmas Island spraying insecticide?

Excellent programme, thanks for the heads up, I would have missed it too.

Interesting to hear Sir Frederick Handley Page described as the designer of the Victor. I bet that came as news to the H-P drawing office. 🙂

Just read ‘Backroom Boys’ The chapter on the Black Knight project is breathtaking. One of the scientists had worked on model rockets as a schoolboy and the security thought there had been a breach! He was so advanced.

Superb – can i commend a book by one of the contributors i picked up a couple of months back – its called ‘Backroom Boys – The Secret History of the British Boffin’ – by Francis Spufford -it is not in the least bit ‘dry’ – chapters cover Concorde, One on Black Knight/Arrow, one on the Human Genome Project (did you know a US company was trying to patent genes until the British Welcome Trust funded public access research to be published on the web – nope, me neither), one on early computers – actually early computer games – Elite…for example…fascinating and about £6 or free from your library! Brilliant…..

TT

In 1987, I became ELITE so ner (those of you who had a BBC computer will understand…)
