Was Sir John Mills a WWII veteran ?

Saw today that one of my favorite actors Sir John Mills passed at 97 , was he in the British military during WWII ? Of course he was in many war films after the war…a very fine actor !

Yes, it was very good.
Not much flying but a story about a pub, an airfield and the different Yanks and Brits that flew from it.
A bit dated now but well worth a look.
Cheers

Is that the one with distant shots of “Shortnose” Blenheims in it, with Type C roundels??

Sad news, just thinking of his films reveals a list of all time classics and sometimes iconic moments; Ryan’s Daughter, Ice Cold in Alex, The Colditz Story, Gandhi, The End of the Affair, the list just goes on.

I thought people on this forum might like to see a photo of Sir JOhn taken at last years Biggin Hill, He was on fine form that day and looked much younger than his years.
We have lost a great Englishman today and a Real star.

He married his wife in 1941, according to the TV news: and the wedding picture broadcast shows him in what looks like an army officers uniform. But any possible career in the military was lost to a duodenal ulcer and he returned to helping the war effort in front of the camera.

Sir John was in the Army, not sure which unit and during which period but I think that it was WWII.
