"One of our aircraft is missing" (Duxford)

None of you Duxford regulars (residents?) noticed that something is missing.

I understand a raiding party from the Midlands has secreted something away!

Sorry I’m still using film so have to wait for my photos from Boots – maybe someone else will post piccies.

The fuselage is A model but the wings are ‘hard’ (no slats) examples from a late F86E,the ‘6-3’ wing.

But the leading edges are completely straight from root to tip – no sign of the 6″ and 3″ extensions – does that narrow down the options, or add to the confusion?

Yup,it’s the one that used to be in the AAM.The fuselage is A model but the wings are ‘hard’ (no slats) examples from a late F86E,the ‘6-3’ wing. The fuselage was used as an instructional airframe in the US before she was imported here, and she had a number of panels cut out to enhance her usefulness for instruction,so she’s not a pristine ultra-rare A model exactly.

Wasn’t this one in AAM at one point? or am i getting confused.

I assume its ‘on-loan’ as opposed ‘sold’….Couldnt find any info on the IWM website…

Duxford disposing of another exhibit – obviously not ‘Historic’ enough for them as there are, of course, so many ‘A’ models around. 😡

Let’s hope that it is better cared for in its new home than the IWM’s Meteor NF11 WD686 at Muckleburgh. 😡

I’m not going to get into justifying what was a carefully thought out decision to loan the Sabre out, but I would point out that although the fuselage was ‘A’ model, the wings were most certainly not. Did you not notice the painted-on slats?
