Poor old aircraft

Can anyone tell me of the “fate” which awaits some 6 or 7 aircraft which have been parked at Hemswell Cliff, Lincs. (part of the old airfield now a large Antques Centre) for at least the past 5 years and appear to have never been moved.. Some have a small cover over the cockpits but others are just open to the elements. They consist of a Meteor, Vampire, Provost, Hunter and others.
What a way to go!!!!!!!!!

Poor old aircraft

Hi David
Thanks for your reply as regards the future of these “poor old aircraft” when I stated that the cockpits were “open” I meant that they were actually shut but had no covers and were “open” to the elements.
Nodoubt your band of people have done their best (which I applaud) to keep these aircraft from deteriorating further.
Having visited this area only occasionally, and not being a local I did not know that it was a museum.
Please accept my apology and I am more than pleased that they are not going for scrap.
Well done

There is only one Lightning there – the other moved to Aeroventure about two years ago . As for the remaining aircraft as soon as the details are confirmed !

Dakota – None of the aircraft have ‘moved’ as such because they are museum exhibits and there is no need to move them as such. There isn’t a Meteor there and never has been. What is there has effectively been saved in most cases from destruction.
The museum has reviewed it’s future and the aircraft on site have been sold to various museums. The clear exception to this is the Mystere which is on loan from
the USAF Museum . On various visits over the years I have never seen cockpit canopies open – indeed the group as a whole has been incredibly patient and accomodating in helping to ensure the long term future of these machines in other hands.

The group is in the process of disbanding, and the aircraft will be sold.

This is the bomber county air museum. They are looked after but from what you say I wonder if something has happened to the group??
